Title: Americans Fear Free Speech Disintegrating
Post by: Solar on February 28, 2024, 06:39:02 AM
At first I chuckled, because I'll always speak my piece, but then it hit me.
If no one can hear you, do you really have Free Speech?

I can no longer use Discuss in the article, permanently banned at X and virtually all chat programs because they're somehow connected through Google.
I can't send or receive email through any google mail, all of our sites are black listed thanks to google, have been for years which is why you rarely see new faces.

Anyway, here's the article.

Many think First Amendment 'goes too far in the rights it guarantees'

Free speech fights are becoming more and more common these days, as social media play a growing role in people's lives and the leftist corporate owners insist more and more that only their views should be allowed to be disseminated to the public.

Even Joe Biden's administration tried to use public money to set up what was described as essentially the same as the "Ministry of Truth" found in the dystopian novel "1984."

The result isn't good, according to a new poll, which reveals only 1 in 4 Americans think their right to free speech is secure, and more than two-thirds say the nation's trajectory on free speech is going the wrong way.

The poll is from the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression and the Polarization Research Lab.

When asked about "whether people are able to freely express their views," 69% of respondents said things in America are heading in the wrong direction, compared to only 31% who believe that things are heading in the "right direction," the polling revealed.

Almost one-third of the respondents, 29%, said free speech is not at all secure.

For the other half of the discussion, see the changes being made to GAB.

I have said before that I don't view social media and tech companies as private entities. I view them as the 1st Amendment in the modern age. They have the power to effect public opinion. They need to be held accountable for their biased stances that effect public opinion. I stand by that.

Google, is just one on many companies that need to be broken up. They have too much power in our lives. Saying two genders is "misinformation", but making them up is OK.

They ban Trump for saying mean things, yet actual terrorists and criminals still get to say and do whatever they want. I still say Trump should have said that he was going to Gab or whatever after his banning. It would have hurt Twitter and helped the new guy on the block.

Free speech doesn't go to far, people take it to far. Nobody has any morals. That's why we have these social media influencers, pranksters, frauditors, and video bullies (my new term for those who whip out a camera in order to influence the viewer that the person being filmed is the bad guy when it is not). These people take it too far, and their fans support it taking it too far. They are all guilty. Harassing people going about their miserable lives for social media clout and money is downright criminal.

Section 230 comes into play here.
Section 230 is a law that says that social media platforms
are immune from libel lawsuits (unlike newspapers, magazines, etc.)
IF they allow all viewpoints to be posted.

Facebook, etc. are clearly violating that condition!
Therefore, they should be sued by victims of their censorship!
Facebook allows people like you and me to be slandered,
and does not allow us to reply!

Section 230 is the legal tool that our side needs to use
to hold Facebook, etc. accountable
for their biased stances that affect public opinion.

What about when people are demonetized? Or, their content is suppressed so it is hard to find?

That's where we are Right now! Everything referring to Conservative is caught up in the Marxist algorithm.
It's there, they just hide it, but all of that shit is going to be changing very soon.
