There a fool born everyday.

snip~
"This is my only warning. At 10AM Monday morning, I'm going to the campus quad of the University of Chicago. I will be armed with an M-4 carbine and two desert eagles, all fully loaded. I will execute approximately 16 white male students and or staff, which is the same number of time McDonald was killed," the Chicago Tribune reports. The message continued, "I will then die killing any number of white policeman in the process. This is not a joke. I am to do my part and rid the world of white devils. I expect you do the same."

The threat was left on a website called worldstarhiphop.com over the weekend. A reader alerted the FBI to the threat on Sunday morning. After day long discussions between the FBI and local authorities, University President Robert Zimmer decided to cancel classes Monday.

Ok so this kid makes what is clearly a threat of terrorism, not to mention a racially motivated "hate crime".

Is he sitting in jail? Nope.

Instead he gets home incarceration while awaiting trial, and is told he can't use the internet.

But he can still attend classes on the very campus he threatened.

I know, I know, WTF? But yep it's true.

Contrast that with this kid though:

http://www.elkharttruth.com/news/michigan/2015/03/05/Judge-yanks-bond-for-man-convicted-of-making-campus-threats.html

The one above, he gets home incarceration under his mothers supervision.

This one gets to pay 300,000 U.S.D. is barred from campus, and either complies or sits in jail. Which is where they both belong.

One of every five Americans you meet has a mental illness of some sort. Many, many, of our veteran's suffer from mental illness like PTSD now also. Help if ya can. :) http://www.projectsemicolon.org/share-your-story.html
And no you won't find my "story" there. They don't allow science fiction. :)

Before I heard about this wrist-slap, I'd have locked the kid in a room with a list of 10 ancient justice-systems and make him choose the one he should be punished by... to see if hew was smart enough to choose Solon's Greece.  (I'd have put Dracon's Greece on the list too, where the smallest crime was punished by beheading... 'Draconian'... and see if he was smart enough to pick the right era)

It never made sense to rehabilitate a criminal.  The criminal should do that themselves.

Punishment should deter the crime from being committed.

The criminal justice system needs to serve these ends - IN THIS ORDER:

1. Protect the innocent by locking up habitual offenders.
2. Deter crime by demonstrating that it will result in being locked up.
3. As long as you've got them locked up, try to rehabilitate them. Don't waste the time.

Ohio has done well with number three in recent years.
Ohio has gotten the recidivism rate down to
less than half of what it is in other states,
mostly by providing job training and
psychological counseling in prison.
Here are the 10 RINOs who voted to impeach Trump on Jan. 13, 2021 - NEVER forget!

MI 6  Fred Upton    WA 3  Jaime Herrera Beutler    MI 3  Peter Meijer       NY 24  John Katko       CA 21  David Valadao

Problem with #2 is that a number of them don't think they will be caught.   Therein lies one of the characteristics of a criminal.  Using harsher sentences as a deterent especially on the psychopathic types will not work.

Which is why not only should there be a death penalty, but executions should be out, and in the public.

I know it sounds harsh and like some sort of throwback to the past, but punishment for a criminal act. Simply isn't, and can never be effective as a deterrent, so long as the populace in general never actually sees the punishment being carried out.

Telling someone, "yeah we sent so and so to an appointment with old sparky/a needle in the arm today" simply is not, and does not have the same impact as actually SEEING it with your own two peepers.

You know what?   I'm game.  Let's try it and see what happens.

Honestly, when it comes to WISDOM traditional Folk Tales are under-rated.

In this case the young man was making a political statement!  He should be held accountable for a hate statement a long with the death threat statement.   Let not be PC about what he did.

Hate is a thought and one should not go to prison on thoughts.  The hateful thought is he thought of a group of people as white devils.   Where he should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law is the action (death threat).  Nothing more.
