It always baffles me why do these police officers back up like she was doing. There is so much that can go wrong like tripping over your own feet, running into something, etc, etc.

Soooo true! Then there's the issue with hyper focus, he could have had a wacky accomplice with him and she'd never have known what hit her.
That's why we have "Stand Your Ground Laws"!
