Let this be a warning to anyone involved in a crash. Make sure your vehicle is in the possession of family members with your best interests in mind.
Pull the damn chip!

"The investigators in the accident, or in the collision, they they did a search warrant to seize, in essence, the 'black box' of the vehicle and that's all it is," stated Sheriff Villanueva. "And they're going to go through it and see if they can find out what was the performance of vehicle, what was happening at the time of impact."

Just to be picky,
the Sheriff's Department cannot issue a warrant.
They would have to ask a judge to issue a warrant.
Also, when did they start putting data recording devices on cars?
Plus, it seems to me that any car that has OnStar,
since it's being tracked by GPS,
OnStar would have that data recorded in THEIR servers.
Not sure about that.
One more thing:
tracking and recording devices could be a good thing to have
in case the car gets stolen.

I think any car after the 90s has a chip that records a few things every few minutes, speed, fuel, oil pressure, brakes etc.
Depending on the vehicle, some record speed for a long time. while others dump it within minutes. The newer ones within the last decade records even more, I bought a card reader so I could erase mine.
Is this the road where there are many accidents?
What makes this one so different?
