Wow....I don't know much about the area but that's a big chuck of Oregon leaving for greener pastures.
Five Rural Counties in Oregon Vote to Become Part of Idaho
Five rural counties in Oregon have approved measures to leave their current state and become part of Idaho.
Voters in the counties of Malheur, Sherman, Grant, Baker, and Lake clearly expressed their desire to take tangible steps toward redrawing the borders on Tuesday. Two other rural Oregon counties, Jefferson and Union, voted in favor of similar measures last year.
Activists in the "Greater Idaho" movement—officially named "Move Oregon's Border for a Greater Idaho"—have spearheaded these efforts to achieve greater representation in a government that shares their culture and values.

Yeah, that was the plan with 51, but they blew it by playing the libs game of court tag, till we ran out of money.
This is the latest movement and it actually has promise.
There's also a movement here in western Minnesota to become part of South Dakota.

I'm beginning to think it might be a whole heap easier to just shoot the sons-a-bitches rather than keep trying to run from em. They might finally get the notion that we don't really want to be associated with em anymore.
I would like my county, Montgomery, to leave Pennsylvania and become a part of Hawaii.
If I'm going to dream, I'm dreaming big.

LOL No you don't. That would be like going from one cesspool
into a new cesspool.

Walks, there you go, trampling all over my fantasy bubble.
In my scenario, Hawaii is still paradise. :tounge:

My daughter tell me it's a nice place to visit. I sent her and her girlfriend there for high school graduation for two weeks. She goes to Hawaii every year for a play week. But she said no way in hell would she live over in Hawaii.

Cheaper too
Is Bend in one of the counties?
Seriously, this looks like a steep hill to climb. First, the citizens would have to vote for this. Then there would be lawsuit after lawsuit fighting this. Finally, the state of Idaho would have to approve it. That being said, it is a sane idea.

They know it's all uphill, but what they've created keeps growing.

North Bend is a city in Coos County, Oregon
By Coos Bay, just off the Pacific ocean.
Bend is a city in and the county seat of Deschutes, Oregon
About in the center of Oregon

I stayed in Bend on a business trip. I did not realize what a large retirement area it is.
My best friend and her husband just sold their place in Newport Oregon (on the coast) and are moving to South Carolina.
They had retired there in 2018 as it was her dream to live by the ocean. But they finally got tired of the "politics" of Oregon and health care was costing her a arm and a leg.
They sold their place in less than 2 days at $25,000 over what they were asking.

It will likely take them awhile to adjust to the heat and humidity but the food and the people are good. An occasional hurricane swings by but that beats earthquakes, forest fires, power outages and shitty looney left run politics and government. Lots of golf if they like golf and more fishing than hunting.

If Montgomery County seceded from Pennsylvania and joined Hawaii,
you would get Hawaii's political climate (extreme left),
not its natural climate (nice).

I am not sure they know what they are getting in to... She did live in Texas years ago so at least she will understand the humidity. Unfortunately her hair, like mine, will not adjust well.

Most places in Texas got no idea of real humidity like they have in SC.
Then again I went to the Phillipines from central Florida surrounded by water by the many lakes and the swamp land surrounding Avon Park. Surely I had the heat and humidity licked I thought till I walked off the plane and it felt like walking into a soggy wall. I was in the shower four or five times a day till I adjusted to it. There were light fixtures in the bottom of the closets, not for light but to keep your clothes from getting moldy and your shoes from turning green. At least I was pretty well set for SEA after the PI.

Born and raised in Illinois - 90+ degrees and 90% humidity. Solar tells me about being stationed in Korea and their humidity.

I didn't think Korea so bad but before I got there I had already acclimatized to the PI and SEA.
After many years settled down back here I went to Shanghi for a month and felt Asian humidity again. I didn't feel it so much in Taiwan though.

I lived in New Ulm for a few years a decade ago and they were very right wing, while I have relatives in Mankato and St Paul which seem to be quite leftist.
I think it pretty much boiks down to city cesspool urban areas were people are so helpless, lazy and stupid they can't even think for themselves vs rural areas where people still have ability, self respect and pride.

It's all all cities that can vote themselves free stuff. Then have the rest of the working people in the state pay for it.

MN is a funny place. The twin cities is ultra liberal but outside of the metro it's very red.
