Cop who hid behind his car during Parkland high school massacre wins his job back
He will receive back pay as well as missed overtime, accrued holidays and other benefits to which he would have otherwise been entitled.
The sergeant had been terminated by Sheriff Gregory Tony, who replaced Scott Israel in that role following the shooting. Israel had been suspended from the department by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis after the massacre; he is currently running against Tony to reclaim his position there.

Any of you' ever been shot at by an AK?
How do you think his fellow officers are going to react to having a proven coward in their ranks.

yes...but his job was to protect and defend. And those were kids.
Maybe he'll be agreeable to wearing a mask.

Knowing BSO deputies like I have....and I've known many.....most want t go home after their shift.
I've known many BSO Sheriffs. Some had big balls. Some were political hacks who were all talk.
Scott Israel was a political hack.
I knew a BSO Deputy who got so fed up with the politics he radioed in he was quitting. Walked off leaving his car doors open, lights flashing and caught a cab home.
He is a legend....LOL
There's never enough to satisfy David Hogg types....

How about that, he was the coward of Broward County.
When I was getting fitted for my vest, I told the Sargeant if anyone pointed a gun at me I'd need Depends instead of a vest. I would hesitate calling anyone a coward until I've been in his shoes.

I was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale (Broward county) and knew many of the cops.
Knew Sheriff Nick Navarro (Head man) personally.
My very good friend David Lowe, (fought beside him in nam) was a BSO officer as well as another friend, David Farrell.
(Had a buddy, Jim Robinson on the Lauderdale police force)
Maybe things are different today but I KNOW, my friends would probably have taken unkindly to cowards!
LOL...Good old Uncle Nick. What a character. And a Republican in a Democrat stronghold.
No. Fort Lauderdale has changed....said understated.
Were you a Flying L? I was a Bulldog.
Ron Cochran started off a Lauderdale motorcycle cop. worked his way up.
The weirdest sheriff: Ken Jenne. Started out a Democrat state rep in Tally. Ended up in prison. LOL....

No but does an AK-47 count?
Shot at and ... shot!
(Just a leg wound)
Amen....
Walter Clark. He used to send a deputy to pick up the proceeds from Lucky Luciano's Carpet Clubs on Hallandale Beach Blvd at midnight. LOL......

As I have already said .. Not only was I shot at, I was also shot!
If I had hidden and allowed the massacre of the men in my unit .. I could look forward to a very confined future!
If I had pissed my pants, those same men ... Hell, I can't even imagine what they would have done to me!
And remember .. most of us were not even out of our teens and: Didn't Have The 'Luxury' Of Wearing A Vest!
(You don't sound like someone who I'd want to look out for me!)
Thank you very, very much for your service.
I went in the day after Martin Luther King was assassinated. Was at Fort Gordon when RFK was assassinated two month later..on my birthday, no less.
Those were the days, my friend.
Are you still in Lauderdale. I'm currently lockdowned in New Mexico. I don't think Icould handle South Florida during this Covid bullshit....LOL. Cae out here 13 yeas ago to prep. Now all that prepping is paying off. Living comfortably in my bug out home. LOL again. No. I couldn't take it there in all this mess, as much as I miss the beach. Paddleball on Garfield Street. Played a lot of games with retired NY cops.
Quote from: mrclose on May 14, 2020, 06:24:31 PM
I went to Northeast.
(A Hurricane)
Navarro jumped parties to get re-elected!
(Can't remember from what to what?)
Remember when "cops" started?
Navarro was in them all!
Say what you will, nick navarro was a big part of that shows success!
Yeah, Palm Beach native Burt Reynolds helped Nick launch Cops, and helped Nick become Sheeriff.

Back at ya my friend!
Left Florida over twenty years ago.
Live in Chesterfield, Virginia now.
Florida is actually one of the better places to be right now, I have heard?
Location. Location. Location...LOL
My son tells me it sucks. Oh, well. Better than some Yankee city.

Tory, you a cop?
Sorry to have been so rough on you in my responses!
I had no idea that you were a female!
(After some of your remarks though .. I still wouldn't want you as a partner)
Just being honest.
No offence taken. I am male. I was an unarmed Peace Officer for 25 years with two commendations. I would have your back. My point is that I wasn't there at the shooting in Florida. I can't judge someone based on news broadcasts. If I don't know all of the details, what was going on in his mind, I refuse to judge him. This Deputy is going to wear his decision for the rest of his life.

I'm going to butt in with a true story.
I knew a guy who was a cop up in New England, somewhere. He told me about shooting and killing some guy, and even though the shooting was ruled justified, he resigned because in his mind, he did not know why he had to shoot the guy.
And I don't really know what this story has to do about anything, except I felt compelled to tell it.
Another true story.
A female cop comes upon a burning automobile with a woman trying to commit suicide, The female cop risked her life to crawl into the burning car to save the suicidal woman. The suicidal woman reached around to grab the female cops; gun and proceeds to shoot and kill her through the side of her vest.
The other cops shot and killed the suicidal woman.
Life and death is plain crazy sometimes.

Sometimes the guy hit never knew what hit him. Instant eternity. They were the lucky ones who didn't die lying in agony with a belly wound in the elephant grass and there was too much fire to get an evac chopper in to attempt saving him.

couldn't possibly hurt. They all get up and continue to fight their way through...some even jump off a 20 foot roof and don't break any legs or arms.

Should I make a separate board for you since you seem to want to post about it? That way you can post all your war stuff. We have members on this board who went through it. MDGiles, for example, had his entire hip blown off. Odd, he doesn't feel the need to inject it into his posts.
Let me know and we can make you feel special, as if you're the only one on the forum with such experiences.

why do you feel the need to do this?
I for one and I'm sure others appreciate his remarks and his service. No need to accuse him of self promotion. If he lived through he has the damn right to mention it.
I would expect remarks like this from a liberal board...NOT a conservative one.

Thank you. Well said, There are already several good Vietnam pages on facebook, and there's the American Legion and VFW posts to sit and drink with other vets of all wars. And believe it or not, we don't just talk about war. We talk football and other stuff. I'm proud to have served along with millions of others. If I want to talk about it, I will. If I want to talk football and other stuff, I will.
One VFW compatriot told me several really interesting stories about scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. How wearing nylon stockings protects the skin from some really nasty mean jelly fish whose sting can penetrate thick denim jeans..

YOU WERE SERIOUS? LOL.
I'm happy in my little conspiracy forum. And if I have the urge to post about Vietnam. I will. I'd rather talk about the 2nd Amendment. If you want to do that, I'm cool with that. Do you think there are enough people interested in 2A? Don't do it just for me. If there are enough people interested in 2A, go for it and I'll participate.

Second Amendment, and Vietnam. I just wouldn't presume that you're the only one, or even of a handful, with your experience on this forum. I'm fascinated by the stories, but posts like "Have you ever been shot with an AK" is a little..... off putting if someone doesn't know where you're coming from.

Take all claims of war injuries with a grain of salt. That was kind of the point. Every Disabled vet I know, and I mean every single one, including my own brother shot in Nam, never talked about it.
These are memories most want to forget and move on from.
I guess i'm a little confused here. I would have thought that admins/owners of boards would be courteous to posters because you do want to increase your membership..or that is what I thought would be the goal. I can understand a level of defensiveness to liberals, especially radicals, but a little more consideration for those on the right.
Secondly for a political board, I would have thought that one would want to align with other conservative boards in order to advance the conservative and in these cases the Trump agenda.
Guess I had that all wrong.
