Being in NC this story is of interest to me. It was a big story in local news yesterday. Asheville city schools are closed today, but Buncombe County (where Asheville is) schools are not closed. It is about 250 miles from Asheville to Raleigh. My blood boiled last night and I asked Mrs. Sup a question. If these teachers care so much about the kids why are they holding this rally on a school day? I think we know where teacher union priorities are.

It's not for the kids. The more money teacher get the more the union dues go up.
Since those kids aren't being taught anything worth a damn, maybe closing the school is a good thing.

I am sure there are some very good private school around to pick up the slack.
But 19000 teacher and union will not like it.

Here in WNC most of the public schools are pretty good. My county's district is in the top 10 in the state. Therefore there are a limited number of private schools. Being involved with private schools with my kids I have learned that private schools flourish when public education goes into the toilet.
