Russia isn't bombing ISIS.  They're bombing the western backed opposition army.

The Opposition army" Consists of a few Generals who would love to seize power from Assad and establish their own Kleptocracy, while it is important to prop up Assad, the real purpose is to cushion Iran.

I would guess this strike was to send a message to the resistance to come to terms with Russia and Assad! Something big is coming. Russia in not known for surgical strikes. They will go for the heart of ISIS but do not want to have to fight on 2 fronts.
The real question I have is are we ready? If Russia does attack hard and fast there will be a mass exodus of ISIS from Syria to Iraq. are we ready to take out those forces as they move?

If they are able to move their Syrian forces into Iraqi cities what kind of mess will that create? They need to nail them in the open desert as they move! I still remember the long lines of pick up trucks when they first went into Iraq! God, what a good place for a cluster bomb!! just a few A10's would destroy them if they are caught in the desert!

I think there's a whole lot more going on than just propping up Assad.  Russia wants airfields and naval bases in the ME.  It's also a good way to ingratiate themselves with the Europeans by stopping the refugees.  Putin wants more than anything to destroy our NATO alliances.

It is baffling. Sure, they are horrible thugs and heathens preying on the innocent. However, they have no air force. They have some seized/stolen equipment, but no way to re-supply or repair it. Look what we did to the Iraqi forces in the Gulf War. It could be the same with a little resolve.

From the Russia point of view attacking the free Syrian army first was a priority. As long as Assad's forces are tied down fighting them they cannot be used to go after ISIS! unless the Russians intend to commit massive ground forces they need the Syrian support to take out isis!
Our country is responsible for the growth of ISIS by assisting the introduction of all the weapons into Syria to fight Assad that ended up in ISIS hands! Our meddling in the Syrian civil war caused this crisis!
With Putin's support Assad will drive the rebels out including ISIS. I hope we are smart enough to realize that ISIS will move their army to Iraq before allowing the Russians to destroy it!

Bearing in mind that since the days of the Czars Mother Russia has desired to expand its borders to gobble up more land to include a warm water port for her fleets of ships and since before WW2 OIL to fuel her ships. The REAL Prize has always been and will ALWAYS be the STRAITS OF HORMUZ.

No one is more intent on the former and the later than Putin.

SYria is just a convenient stepping stone. Putin is gonna use this as an excuse to OWN Assad...the price to save his crown is more pipelines pumping oil North and WARM WATER PORTS to house Russian ships & Subs.

Russians are gonna kick ass, first eliminating Syrian Rebel Generals and their minions, you know, the ones the fools in the Obamao Admin and those idiots in Congress were supporting yeah those guys, the ones who are RESUPPLYING ISIS with the stuff we gave them. These people are ISIS Supply source....probably for a price coz thats how these corrupt SOB operate.

Once Vlad deals with these pipsqueaks, he'll implement the second part of his plan....CHASE ISIS INTO IRAQ where it will cause problems for the US. He doesn't want to destroy it, he wants it to work for him in further tangling up the US and destabilizing Iraq, making fools of us and lessening our hold on the region more and more.

The main goal is to get us the hell out of the Region altogether, that means Saudi Arabia and defense of the gulf states. That could be right, Billy, but I cannot see Putin ever controlling Hormuz.  I don't think he can accomplish it before Obama leaves office and a conservative Prez would never allow it.

Yeah but there is no guarantee that a "conservative" is gonna get elected and it is well worth the gamble. Besides who knows what move's Obamao is yet to make before he leaves office. Putin is a very patient person.

You are also forgetting a nuclear armed Iran....Putin's DeFacto ally. The Prize is Mecca, for he who controls Mecca can control Islam...'specially when a majority of the other Holy sites are located in your Country.  That is what those blacked robed Lunatics want more than anything
