Title: It all started with ACOC and Cascada
Post by: patentlymn on May 13, 2025, 10:58:29 AM

I will post some stuff slowly unlike the wall of text I posted before.
long ago at ACOC someone posted some anime set to "Every time We Touch" by Cascada.
I like the rhythms.
There are several different animes set to this.
This led me down  a very long path.

Here is one. Cute.

Here is Cascada. i had never heard of her.

One thing about the Japanese, they love them some Bubble Gum music.
When I was there in 72, every station was playing the latest pop hit, not that I can remember what they were, but I was never a rock fan, just happy music, and current anime reflects that same spirit today.
As simple as the music is, it doesn't beat you over the head; it simply moves along with many of the story lines.

My influential years were the 50s and early 60s; after 65, things started downhill for me.

I remember those Japanese pop songs now. The anime I posted is Japanese set to western dance music. Grok says it is dance-pop and club music, Eurodance and trance music. I had to ask it as I did not know. I noticed lots of what I later liked came out of Netherlands or northern EU.

I never liked anime or manga but apparently there is music from anime. My kids liked some VHS Japanese stuff like Princess Mononoke. I liked it also.

Yep, ABBA is a great example.
I've always been an animation fan, mostly for the art, and the time consumed replicating it frame after frame.
Anime, unlike our early years, is computer generated, but the storylines are top notch, so I'm still hooked on toons.

I literally signed up with Crunchyroll a few years back. Pretty much all anime comes through them, and is redistributed, not all, but the majority.
Pick your genre, or you can even watch them from their site for free, not all but a lot. Only problem is, many have yet to be dubbed, but all have subtitles, and some don't even need dialogue.

Maybe I will try it sometime. I figured out Alina Gingertail is really a geek and is into video games and knows lots of anime detailed plots. I had no idea such music was a thing.

Here is her anime  playlist.maybe you know some.  Elfen  Lied - Ilium creeps me out and she only sings half.
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWuGFckoU4TyFfBUJ7-a_gXvjmho5yYkp

My favorite anime cover of hers is Fairy Tail - Natsu Them. She plays свирель(Svirel) and waldzither.

Waldzither has a unique sound when heard alone

I have Roku. It plugs into a TV or monitor and plays videos off WiFi sources. Youtube is just one channel. Most channels are free. I had this video on in back ground. So I listened to the whole video. I never liked The Beatles, although they wrote good music. Never liked the Rolling stones or Elvis. I never knew Dianna Ross and the Supremes had so many hits. I loved The Doors even though they were druggies as I recall.

I saw Dianna Ross in concert in the 1980s. She was great and very high energy.

Grok says The Supremes and Diana Ross achieved significant success on the Billboard Hot 100, with a combined total of 18 number-one hits in the United States.

It is sad how black groups went from all these in the video to today.

Not familiar with how Roku works, but if you can, check out this link.

I have Starlink, the cheapest high speed connection available, with no limits.
If you get Firestick, you get Amazon Prime free, and for $5 bucks a month, you can get Crunchyroll.
Minus kit, it costs about $90 a month, and that's including more TV than you can stand.

Agree, I only liked stuff from 1963 prior, later stuff was crap. And yeah, was never a fan of hard rock, still can't stand it.

I like the Supremes, but my market never heard all that much from them, only an occasional hit or two.
I could pick up KFRC out of the Bay Area, where they played a lot more diverse Pop to a bigger audience.
We had but one Pop station in Sacramento at the time, called KROY, until 1965 when our population started growing and we lost the small town spirit.

QuoteIt is sad how black groups went from all these in the video to today.

Yep, all part of the plan in destroying American culture.

Getting back to the OP...the ACOC Cascada song led to a series of CDs. i needed  a pulsing rhythm on head phones to focus on some work. This led to Ultra Dance then Ultra Trance. I ripped them to my computer.

I only discovered her music a few years ago. Don't know when she started or died.
I moved to the Sierra in the 80s, no radio, no TV for years, until Internet dialup, which opened up a new era, until the advent of DSL and later cable, which killed dialup. it wasn't till I got Starlink that I was able to even watch a video.

WOW. I would go nuts but I could read more. I never watch TV anyway but did start watching a few recent series. Didn't you have AM radio or short wave?  How much is starlink and how good?

This was around the time that AM was cutting its wattage output in Ca.
KFBK, a northern Ca powerhouse which transmitted to all of Ca, (the same station Rush got his start at) went down to just the Sacramento area, and I'm 80 miles into the Sierra surrounded by mountains. The same time they were pushing  "Clear Talk" radios. Even my dad bought one in Sacto., 11 miles from the transmitter. Sounded like a scam, that even my dad had to get one to hear it static free.
So, in order to hear it, I had to drive to the Mtn. top and sit, and sitting still was not one of my strengths.

Starlink rocks! Just checked my speed. My plan without any limits is $125 per month. We paid more than that on all satellite servers, and even more on wireless with 100 Gig limits on all. Satellite servers had so much latency, just a weather photo took a full minute to start downloading.
I can easily close in on a Terabyte each month with Starlink, but that's because all of my time is spent sitting here.   :

I might stop capitalizing. It is hard for me to shift with left hand and maybe i have  keyboard issues.
After finding the ultra dance then ultra trance cds I noticed i liked some djs.
I never thought of them as musicians. Tiesto then armin van buuren. I am very old, not hip, not gay, and never went to clubs. If i put on headphones i can focus better.

I still like techno. I got started on guys like Bass Hunter and Aqua later on
Bass hunter was rudimentary, but he, like Aqua, was huge in Europe.
Aua had one hit in the States, Barbie Girl, a very silly song, but they were seen as a threat to our music industry, so they were shut out.

Another DJ fed to me by the algos. A woman. That is rare. Not dutch but belgian BTW this stuff is always background music. I could never watch it for long.

Charlotte de Witte: Key Details
Born: July 21, 1992, Ghent, Belgium.

Style: Known for dark, minimal techno and acid techno, with a raw, emotional, and gritty sound that appeals to both techno purists and new fans.

Career Start: Began DJing in 2010 at age 17 under the alias Raving George to avoid gender bias in the electronic music scene. Switched to her real name in 2015, embracing techno after being inspired by a Len Faki set.

Breakthrough: Won a Studio Brussel DJ contest in 2011, earning a spot at Tomorrowland. Her debut EP, Weltschmerz (2015, Turbo Recordings), marked her shift to techno.

First female DJ to close Tomorrowland's main stage (2022) and Detroit's Movement Festival (2023).

I started this topic just to explain how I ended up liking some weird music. I would put it on in background or on headphones.

The final find in this genre was the symphonic metal group Within Temptation. There was a one time concert with an orchestra in Netherlands. It is 2 hours long and I bought the DVD. I have watched this several times years back. The lead singer so called "front woman" is Sharon den Adel. Very pretty. Now mother of 3.

I do not know where to link as most songs are good. I used to watch the whole concert on  good TV.

I linked to the end of one song which leads into a quiet song at 45 min. Around 51 minutes she is joined by Anneke van Giersbergen, also dutch and maybe the first front woman for a metal group when much younger. I heard every metal head would like her as his girlfriend.
