One of a handful of stellar composers and performers of progressive rock when he helped found King Crimson, Lake went on with E.L.&P. to create some of rock's more enduring songs. He's probably best-known at this time of year for this song....

I always liked 'Take A Pebble' as his most comprehensive vocal-laydown. 

Fripp's talent overwhelmed him in King Crimson, so I was wondering if Emerson's would do the same in ELP.  -Nope.  It was a perfect compliment.  Lake could switch from bass to lead at will.

And he's a master lyricist.  -Basically inventing the mythical/elemental/phantasy/arena-rock style of composition.
