Can you own a gun in Colorado if you smoke pot?
The feds say no. State law is silent. And a new federal appeals court ruling has Colorado gun and pot culture watching.
Corey Hutchins

This week, a federal appeals court covering nine western states upheld a ban on firearms sales to residents who hold medical marijuana cards.
Though Colorado was not among those states, lawyers here say the move sends a signal that the federal judicial branch is not sympathetic to state laws when it comes to guns and pot.
The ruling stemmed from a lawsuit brought by a Nevada woman with a medical marijuana card— she says she's not a user— who was denied a gun by a gun dealer. The court decision is again fueling a debate about the intersection of state and federal law on weed and weapons.

This should get interesting. If you can prevent people holding the medical pot card, how about others receiving specific classes of medication?

Fascinating! Just because the state passes a law legalizing something, the Fed still pulls weight?
I'd expect to see this winding it's way to SCOTUS.

Oh it will, eventually. The ramifications of this type of ruling could be huge for all gun owners, if the ruling is allowed to stand.

You have to admit it is an ingenious way to enact gun control/confiscation without the bothersome problems of legislation.
