Just bought an ice cream machine, dump the mix into it, and 30min later, soft-serve.
I like Vanilla - SHE likes Chocolate.   OK, 1 bag of Vanilla mix, 5 bags of Chocolate mix...  Sounds about right.

Frostline Chocolate contains:  Sugar, Corn Syrup Solids, Coconut Oil, Dutch-Processed Cocoa, Contains 2% or less of: Sodium Caseinate (A Milk Derivative), Salt, Guar Gum, Potassium & Sodium Phosphate, Mono & Diglycerides, Soy Lecithin, Xanthan Gum.

We add whole milk (liquid) & powdered cream.

It comes out, very, very creamy smooth, no ice crystals or chunks.

I'm excited about this

Lime - Vanilla is MY personal favorite!

Wifey - it's Chocolate... double, triple, magnum ... skip the fillers, just give her Chocolate!

Ive been thinking of getting one of those things for a couple of reasons. One I'm diabetic and two there seems to be some kind of idiotic conspiricy by the stores to eliminate peach and some other flavors of ice cream that I happen to enjoy. They can all march to the tune of a couple of hippie faggots in Vermont if they want but I can go my own way.
Crazy but not stupid!

You're in luck, someone makes it.

Our first attempt was met with OK results, it was clumping, not too smooth.
But, following advice of others, do the blending, then let it rest in the fridge for 2hrs, put it in the freezer/mixer, and the consistency/texture is COMPLETELY different - very smooth & creamy.

I'd probably just make diabetic friendly vanilla and add some cut up peaches to it. All ya gotta do is swap out the sugar for sweetner and ya got it. Some of tye best ice cream I've ever had was hand cranked and niw they taken the work out it.
Tell me does your machine include the refridigration gear for the freezing or is it one of those with a cold core that you have to prefreeze in your freezer?

Build in mini-compressor.  The reason everyone says chill the mix in the fridge is not to pre-cool, but to allow the dry mix to fully mix with the water or milk (dry mix & liquid).  We did it in a blender, then straight to the machine - NOPE!  don't do that - it separates as it freezes - needs time to really combine, 2hrs makes a HUGE difference in the final results.

I tried one of those "freeze the donut" pour in the mix - what a joke.  This is what I got... tax return..

The metal stirrer is what I wanted.

We had a 2 flavor soft serve machine in the camp(s) I worked at - and, because we had one at our camp, and I knew how to "set them up"... I worked on 4-5 of them, usually replacing motors because someone set the thermostat below 19 degrees, they've freeze up and burn up belts & motors.  These little table top units are NOT lightweights.  45lbs!  Plus, what are you going to do with 5 gallons of soft serve from a big machine?  They do not work with just 1/2 gallon of mix (which expands to yields 3 qts of product).  It takes about 2 gallons of mix (on the units I worked on), just to *start* them.

These table top units are priced *fair*, we get about 2qts, in 20min, and if you do a double mix, like we do, scoop out the first part, dump in the second, and we got enough for later in the the freezer.  (about 3 quarts)

I made the mistake of ordering this unit, it's cheap... I might send it back or, gift it to a handicapped friend - who's wife loves chocolate too!

(hmmm.... last week it was selling for $298, now it's $340...?)

Worst thing you can do... screw up the mix when you make your own.  Some Custards are really fussy, and just don't take to thawing and refreezing without separating into globs of FAT, Sugar clumps - ugh!

Just ONE tablespoon of THIS, can make it... oh.. so smooth & creamy!  Again, mix it, let it sit in the fridge for 2hrs, mix it again, about 1hr ... just to help everything dissolve... then into the machine.

We did this, without the 2hr sit-in-the-fridge... just like Mcd's, ICE CHRYSTALS, coarse.  Same mix, 2hrs in the fridge - super, creamy, smooth... who would have thought it made that much difference?

Thanks for the info. I can see it was cheaper as well as lighter in weight but what went wrong with the cheaper one?
I don't know if I can eat enough ice cream to make it worth while but I'd sure like me some peach ice cream. I'm really getting sick and tired of the three or four flavors avaliable for diabetics. Chocolate, vanila, fudge tracks, triple chocolate and pecan. Oh once in a blue moon neopolatin.

After seeing the price increase on the cheaper unit ... we're gonna hang on to it.  It arrived the day before the more expensive unit.  I tried to cancel, Amazon already had my money - I'll see which one the wifey and kids like, maybe we'll keep it - (have not unboxed it yet)

We waited for YEARS for these small units.  Even with 8 kids, I wasn't gonna pop for a big one.  For the 4 of us left, or 2 in a couple of years, these are just right size.  1-2 quarts, perfect.  If the price isn't an issue - at YOUR AGE - just go for it, it's like a "project"... hobby... lol.

We bought a commercial popcorn popper, 'cause we burned out 3 of those "Stir Crazy" poppers... we eat that MUCH popcorn.   What we don't eat, the Ducks eat.  We only buy White Popcorn - it tastes better.

I love Lime-Vanilla ice cream.  Everytime I go to those specialty places, they charge me $4.50 for this little thing, icey grainy, poorly mixed (top of it tastes like Vanilla, the bottom like you're sucking on a half-ripe Lime.  Between the poor mixing, coarse grainy ice cream .... I cannot get a GOOD Lime-vanilla shake!

If you can't find someone to do it RIGHT - just do it yourself.

Solar... you need to get your sweetheart one of these things.
She'll come up with some awesome recipe, and you'll just be happy as a clam.

In the meantime, just move the thread somewhere...  I got a feeling, it's not over, once we start experimenting with varieties.

So I guess you're saying there is nothing really wrong with the $320 unit.
I might go for that one simply because of the lighter weight alone. I'm getting to old to hoist the heavier one up onto the kitchen counter very often. 25 lbs is a lot easier than 45.
