The Fair Tax Plan is a beautiful thing, and it's the Democrat's wost nightmare because they'll lose the "class warfare" card.

Absolutely.  Also, there is more support for it than people think.  A good number of the new conservatives support the plan.

This column should be required reading for every citizen, including members of Congress.

Most of the people discussing it don't understand it.

What exactly does Rand Paul support?

The have been many excellent ideas for eliminating the onerous and complex Income Tax.

Heritage and Cato are full of such proposals.

Ideally, any new form of taxation should be simple, fair and involve the virtual dismantlement of the IRS.

Pragmatically that's not going to happen.

I would favor a "Flat Tax" or a "Flat Rate Tax."

A national sales tax to replace the income tax

Dan

Flat tax is good. Fair tax is better. Of course the libs want both a progressive income tax and a national sales tax or a carbon tax or any other tax their pointy little heads can dream up. Bottom line is that they love anything that allows them to take and spend whatever you earn.
If you believe big government is the solution then you are a liberal. If you believe big government is the problem then you are a conservative.

I thought it was a national sales tax to replace all other taxes, including income tax, of course.  It would be something like 23%, but people's paychecks would have no deductions taken out for taxes.  I rather like it after I thought about it.

A "national sales tax" is the "fair tax plan".  It just a matter of semantics.

23% tax on purchases.  Rebates for those earning under the poverty level.  No more income taxes.  No more IRS.  No more payroll taxes.  The only other taxes will be those levied by individual states.

It's a beautiful and sensible alternative, and that's why it will never see the light of day in the Congress.

Yes it will.  Once people understand it, they like it.  That will continue to spread.

Agreed. The biggest thing holding it back is a lack of understanding and all the misinformation being spread about it.

Too many special interest groups that don't want to give up the power that comes with being able to levy those taxes. Think of all the DC lobbiests who make a great living carving out tax loopholes and ask yourself how many of those people are former congressmen and staffers.  ;)
