Dad gave the son rifle for Christmas.

I see this as a slippery slope by the gun hating leftists and a future trend. Next they will try to make it illegal to give a family member a firearm as a gift.

Billy, would love to hear your opinions on the charges. I see the father guilty of being stupid, but I can not see how any of the charges can stick.

Based on what I have been reading, this kid never had a chance. His mom has a wrap sheet going back 17 years. Neighbors report poor living situations as did an aunt. The FBI was aware of this kid last year and followed up. However, the dad had all the right answers and local law enforcement could not take action.

As for the legality of the charges. The state of Georgia passed laws holding parents accountable. I totally agree the dad is stupid for buying the kid a gun knowing his history.

So you know your kid drinks alcohol and smokes weed from time to time and for a graduation gift him a car?? He gets high and causes a fatal accident. It's the dads fault because he gifted him the car? Slippery slope indeed.

I think this as more a civil liability case under vicarious liability than criminal negligence. The only reason I support vicarious liability is that the parent failed to act when Law enforcement showed up and interviewed him concerning his sons postings on shooting. Then that begs the question if these postings were serious enough for a knock and talk by the FBI or other LEO agency, why didn't they take stronger action? Also did LEO ask the dad to surrender the weapon voluntarily, if not could LEo have gotten a warrant and seized the weapon they MAY have had PROBABLE CAUSE was going to be used in a crime ...we need more details. The main issue is the fact Dad did not actually participate in the crime So how can the prosecution claim CRIMINAL INTENT of a crime the Dad did not actively participate in? plus since the kid is charged with 4 counts of Murder 1 how do you charge someone connected with THAT crime with SECOND DEGREE Murder or manslaughter? Doesn't wash.

It is not illegal to give your child a firearm, that happens all across the US, something the left wants to discourage. I see this as a test case by anti 2nd amendment types, just like charging gun manufacturers. That didn't fly either. I resubmit, this slope is getting more slippery by the moment
