Stuck With A Ford Expedition

Truck is being serviced, so they gave me a Ford for the week since Avis is right on the premises.

Its not a bad car, but its still a car, rides nice, kind of quiet, handles well, stops great, but...

The interior not only looks cheap, it is, it is the worst use of plastic in since the dammit doll, it reminds me of the Luv truck interior, butt ugly.
Maybe I'm just spoiled by my 4X4 diesel, but if I were given this car as a gift, I'd unload it in a heartbeat.

Oh, and it seems to be underpowered, haven't looked under the hood, but it feels like a V-6....

Just venting, I want my truck back..... :(

I'm a loyal Toyota man myself. Had too much good luck with them to look elsewhere.

I unloaded my Toyota Tacoma PU on the dodge dealer, it only had 10 thousand miles on it, but it was having all kinds of problems, everything but the engine.
I bought a new Corolla in 1980, nice little car, but it didn't fare well in a small accident, the thing crumpled like a Coke can, but mechanically, it was a champ.

This diesel 4x4 will be the last vehicle we buy, seeing how I never drive, only has 10 K on it as well and I've had it 2 years, and the Cummins is supposed to be good for a million miles, I figure this is it for me.
ST has my Subaru and its been a fantastic car, and should be on its last leg by the time she retires, so the commute will end and we will just relax and stay home.

Though we are thinking of driving to Alaska to look at land.

My Cummins is just starting to get broken at 160.000.  I now average 22 to 23 mpg. highway @ 70 mph.  I averaged 17 mpg pulling my 5th wheel for 2 months.@ 60 mph through Washington, Oregon, Idaho Montana, and Utah.  I am averaging about 20.000 mils a year.

I an looking at putting 300.000 on it before is slow down.  lol

I belong to several truck forums and many of the guys have pulled their engines out with 300 thousand on them and put them in a newer truck.
A lot of Dodge trucks simply wear out after 300 K but the engines just need a little TLC and are ready for another 300K.

A few guys are mechanics at dealerships, one on particular is a Ford specialist in trannys, and he said they are coming in all tore up, and the IH engines are fine, but the smog system on the diesels is blowing flames out the tail pipe and causing fires.
He said he expects to see a huge recall in a few months, Ford is losing money because their trucks are having way too many issues.

I'll be watching to see if Ford deals with it case by case, or gets a forced recall.

Especially if you live in the country, Cummins recommends every 6 to 7 thousand miles, but I live in Summer dust, and even my air cleaner gets clogged up, and at $20. a crack, that ain't cheap.

We bought the service package and Dodge does all the specified maint. which was just done for the 15 K since it was two years old, they did it anyway, but the bill was over $500. to Dodge, so the service pack is already paying for itself, it was $1500. up front.
At 12 quarts and a filter and lube every oil change, it was worth it.

I still have a 1997 4-runner I bought new. It has over 240,000 miles and has needed very minimal repairs and still runs like a champ.

I change my air cleaner every 6000 even then they say I don't need it done yet.

They did not have a service package like that when I got my Dodge, would have been nice if the did.   Dodge told me I could go 8000 before an oil change.  lol  I said not thanks I will stay with 3000.

When they change my oil they have to look at the dipstick 2 or 3 time before they can see it.  I keep tell them it there ya just have to look for it.

If Toyota had made a 1 ton diesel 4x4, I'd probably have bought that instead, but Dodge makes the best diesel truck on the mkt, which is why I didn't mess with Ford or Chevy.

The salesman suggested the service pack
My knee jerk answer was "Hell No"!
I have never bought that shit, its always a rip, or they find some loophole to deny service.

But then ST said what does it entail?
He showed us the cost of oil changes over 100 thousand miles, and the service pack was less than half that and it included all of the major service calls at 20.000 mile intervals.

And the best part, I don't have to mess with it. :))
