Quote from: Possum on December 23, 2022, 07:59:28 AMWish our spring and fall were longer. They're my favorite. This year summer started the beginning of May and lasted until mid October. With the drought we had to feed hay all year long. This year I'm going to toast the New Year with a shot of real whiskey and see if that helps.
I agree, Summer is not my favorite season, heat, bugs, though I do love the longer days.
It appears that our weather is changing to more normalcy out West, and I do expect La Nina to end this year.

Yeah, a real shot of whiskey sounds like a great idea, so Toy and I will give it a "Shot", what can it hurt?

 I quit drinking in '04. Still have a bottle of Crown Royal that was a wedding present over 30 years ago, never been opened. Should be about ripe by now?

Growing up, holidays and eggnog (homemade that night) with whiskey in it was something all of us had on Christmas eve, from little kids on up to the great great grandma's and pa's. Made the little kids sleep so santa could come. Miss those days. Hell, growing up, we were mostly German, I had Russian too from dad, everything we did had some alcohol involved, from weddings to funerals.

Damn, we could be related.
Though my dad never knew it, he thought we were German, but my DNA shows I originated in Russia and the family moved to Germany later.
Dad was a functioning drunk, a binge drinker of sorts. But I too have a 30 year old bottle of Crown Royal, simply because I've never been a drinker, so there it sits, about two thirds full.
Moy is French Indian, yeah, we had an Indian in the wood pile, seriously, great great grandma got nailed behind the wood pile. :stomp

Dad didn't know either. I found out when the kids had a dna done. Mom and Dad on up spoke German as their first language, I had several relatives who were behind the lines in WW2 because they knew the language. My generation spoke english first and later learned German, some better than others. Dad never lost his accent, for years he played and sang in a country band, probably one of the few who sang with a Germen accent  Back in the day he sat in several times with Bob Wills and the Texas playboys, wish I had a recording. Can't believe how fast time moves.

Not sure of the time frame, but the family had moved to a town of my namesake, and I assume they took on the name of said town for (cover?), some point in the future the family fled the Bolshevik's movement and came to the US.

I still find it interesting that my grand mother told my dad on her death bed, in a whisper to his ear, that we are Jewish.
There is no evidence in our DNA outside her word, they were practicing the religion, so I can only guess the fear that went through her throughout her life of Jewish persecution.

Just weird shit, and no, I'm not Jewish.

Just wanted to share some future news.

I love Mother Nature!!!!

OK, so the forecast says a shitload of rain and snow is on its way to my area. Keep in mind we already have an amazingly good snowpack for the summer.
However, they say it's going to rain on an already heavy snow pack. This means a couple of things, heavy runoff in the streams, and my creeks are already running strong, and it's headed for the valley. So we may see flooding in the valley, but that's not news, this is a normal winter.

What's telling is, any amount of rain saturation in the snowpack usually freezes hard, and come summer it melts, unless we get a warm March series of storms, this could cause devastating  floods in the Sacramento and San Juaquin Valley.

Regardless, the left will be forced to STFU over drought and AGW BS, because with an icepack of snow in the Sierra, means plentiful water all summer long.

Read for yourself...

Discussion...
First round of precipitation is moving through the region.
Initially snow levels will be low but as the warm front moves
through snow levels will rise through out the day and tonight.
Snow levels are currently near 3000 feet along the coastal range
to 4000 feet over the Sierra. The warmer air will move into the
coastal range this morning and by early afternoon snow levels will
rise above 7000 feet so have ended the time period at 2 pm this
afternoon. A cold pocket or air is forecast to linger over Shasta
County into the evening hours so snow levels will be slow to
modify. Further east over the Sierra Nevada snow levels with rise
above pass levels after midnight tonight. After the snow levels
rise above pass levels they are expected to remain high above pass
levels until late Saturday when they lower so may need a Winter
Weather Advisory for the tail end of the Saturday's storm.

For the flood advisory have increased the coverage to include
foothills in Butte County and pushed back the timing of the watch
period to start late in the day Friday to match up closer to when
the strongest front will move through. Some of the foothills may
start to see some issues with small creeks Friday evening with all
the orographic precipitation slowly building up. The valley's
potential for flooding concerns looks more like later Friday night
and Saturday. Lots of orographic influence and snow melt should
bring sharp rises to rivers and streams below the snow level with
some messy slushy streets within the remaining snow pack.

Winds look breezy on Friday but as the low moves though on
Saturday there is a chance for windy conditions to develop
starting early in the day with the focus of the stronger winds
over the southern half of the forecast area and the potential for
breezy conditions over the northern half.

New Years Eve celebrations are starting to look drier for most
locations for the mid to late evening hours. Behind this system
New Years Day is looking dry with maybe some breezy conditions so
not expecting any morning fog at this time.

&&
.EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Monday THROUGH Thursday)...

A series of systems bring the potential for more rain and
mountain snow next week, with the unsettled pattern continuing.
Exact timing remains uncertain, but confidence is high in a
general wet pattern continuing with three systems potentially on
tap for Northern California, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. While
these storms don't look as wet or as strong as this current
event, cold air should bring lower snow levels next week and
winter travel problems could be an issue at times.

That is the longest weather forecast I have read that did not use the term global warming or climate change. We just got over a cold snap which put us down to 10*, rare for any time of year, really rare for December. And of course the local newscasters blamed it on climate change/global warming.
Global warming, it's not just for summer months anymore.

P.S. send some of that rain over here.

Believe me, it's coming. Our last wave just left Az and Utah, dove down to Texas and is now beelining N/E through the South.

This next wave claims I'll get about 8" of rain followed by snow the next few days, and another wave next week.
All of these are taking the same route, dependent on big basin high pressure. Watch Idaho to Utah pressure, that will tell you what's coming.

Yeah, it's nice they don't push the AGW lie, they're scientists in the study of climate, they know the truth as most of us do.

I follow these guys on twitturd, they actually tell the truth, and to think, they live in the bay Area.

UPDATE!
We've gotten an inch and a half of rain since midnight, the creeks are raging, snow is melting and the flooding in the valley will be all that local media will talk about today.
Remember the Oroville dam fiasco 5 years ago? Well, like Ca always does, we go from deluge to drought, and here we are, starting the cycle all over again.

I guarantee you, the left will be pushing global warming caused drought in Calif in 2025.

Oh, here's Oroville currently, but watch it over the next week, should be interesting...

Well, just as I predicted. The snowpack started melting, the rivers to the valley crested and the flooding began.
But they'll still claim global warming.

Oh, I got 10 inches of rain in 48 hours, and the creeks crested as I expected.
All that work I did, was washed away, including additional footage of the bank, and now I have a new gravel bar about 30' long, 5' deep and 10' wide to clear out. Oh, and my new bridge? Washed out.

Oh well, I have something to do this Spring.

Sorry about all the damage, when that much rain hits you can call it a good day if you don't have to form a search team to look for bodies. It's been a couple or three years since we have had the hard downpours, we need one now to flush out the creek and fill up the stocktanks. Always means fence fixing and muddy cleanup. Glad you and Toy are ok, good thing you have a dozer, that backhoe is too good looking to get muddy.
Well, as Noah said, "we never had this much rain until global warming started."

It's all good, I live for extreme, it challenges me to live and push my limits.
And no, there's nothing pretty about that old dozer, Hell, I'm always amazed it fires up and does what it does.

I'll take the backhoe down when it all settles down and the mud dries a little, in about a month.
That thing is a bit unwieldy for weight distribution.

We faired quite well compared to the valley, but then, our canyons get this treatment every cycle 5 to 7 years, when Mother Nature applies a self enema and blows the canyons clear.
I'd had a shitload of debris from the snowstorm that came through a year ago, and destroyed the campsite, was able to give away all that timber, but a lot of trees wound up in the creek, not worth salvaging but I expected this rain since it had been 5 years since our last deluge of rain. (Oroville dam debacle)
Has any of our flooding been in the news? Because this really did kill the AGW LIE!

Like you, we too rely on this for water storage. My spring has never failed me, but I've seen it slow down in bad drought years, so this snow that froze, then this liquid global warming, keeps the Devil at Bay.

Noah was Right, he listened to God, unlike our idiot leftists. Oh, and we got more on the way, as it looks like you might get this too? Hope you needed it, it will be a lot of rain.
