Software innovator John McAfee was reportedly found dead in a Spanish jail cell on Wednesday.

The Spanish High Court ruled earlier in the day that McAfee could be extradited to the United States to stand trial on charges of fraud, money laundering, and tax evasion. He was held in the Brians 2 Penitentiary in Barcelona, where he reportedly died, the Catalan Justice Department announced.

"Everything points to death by suicide," the Catalan Justice Department said, according to The Guardian.

McAfee was 75 years old.

Quotein the event he is reportedly killed or "suicided" while in a Spanish prison. If a "dead man's switch" was initiated by reports of his death, then it would make sense that a confidant posted it for him

For those who didn't know, John McAfee had quite a checkered life.  You can read one account of it here, this guy wasn't going to die of "old age".

Uh, NO, the evidence really doesnt point to suicide at all. In fact the facts seem to point strongly towards murder.

And didnt this guy run for president at some point?

This almost seems like an act of war, an attack on one of our citizens by a foreign power.

Great point! He knew they wanted to whack him, and being a real life Tony Stark he would see that faking his death is the only way to hide.

He was such a mess.

I knew him when he was almost sane.

Years later he blocked me on Twitter for yelling at him about crypto.
