Great point! My wife is deaf in one ear and only has about 30% in the other ear. Masks make it nearly impossible for her to understand what people are saying.

Even with 2 hearing aids, I need to read lips for everything that is being said.  Hearing aids help but not 100%.  If I am in the other room all I hears is someone talking but not what they are saying.  Hearing aids amplify sound, so if a TV or radio is on it will amplify them over a person talking in the same room. 

Now my hearing aids are Bluetooth hearing aids.  So the sounds from my computer and phone goes right into my hearing aids and block out all other sounds around me.

Over the last year, I've said, "What?" or "Say again?" or "I'm sorry, again?" more times than my entire lifetime.
the tinnitus in my right ear, wipes out the vocal frequencies - I just can hear normal speech well, a hearing aid isn't gonna improve what I can't hear.  Yeah, after I say "what" I look right at the lips, as a form of lip-reading too.  This has been a awful year for me. 

The sooner the masks come off, the better - I didn't realize how much I was depending on lip-reading to help me understand conversation.  Even watching a movie - I'm lip-reading, to help me hear & understand.

Bad lip read... Zuckerberg.
