It took two units? I think you may have gotten taken. :sneaky:  Up here they do 20 acres in a week.
Unless you have really steep land. It's funny, they come in with a unit, only to discover rubber tracks were a mistake.
The reputable guys have metal tracks, $135.0 to $175.0 an hour depending, or bid the job.`
I thought about going into business doing it, till I found maintenance was an ongoing issue.
Mine is not all that steep for the most part so they were able to negotiate most of it. There's a lot of maintanence involved because of the beating they both take and dish out. Got foulded in old logging cables a couple of times too.
It was a real overgrown mess when they started but it looked like a park when they were done. Before they took it on I could neither see through or walk through it.
Crazy but not stupid!

I forgot to mention that included in that price was felling 3 large black oaks and one pretty tall Doug fir that all were too close to the house. They bucked and decked the logs for me and I cut and split the oaks into firewood ethe following spring.

I know what you mean, I did it all by hand for decades. The neighbor that bought his, had the most beautiful piece for miles around. You're Right, a literal park, all limbed up 20'. Literally pristine beauty.

Uggh, I hated stumps so much, I bought a D-7 loader, I literally push everything over and drag it up to the top for fire wood.
I have a feeling your forest is much like mine, predominantly Doug fir, a few monstrous Yellow pine, good amount of cedar, Yew trees, and God knows what else.

I've still got stumps all over my place. I got a backhoe when I bought the tractor to take them out but soon found a 38 HP compact tractor ain't near enough machine for dealing with stumps in any reasonable time frame short of a day per stump and stump griders cost a bloddy fortune. Either a stand alone or a PTO driven for use with a tractor.

Yep, that's why the D-7, not much else does what it does, and you definitely need a tractor to follow with clean up, the thing destroys everything it touches, including the road.
My next Toy tool will be a backhoe like yours, any bigger and I can't get it in the forest.

Unless you just wanna dig a few holes or maybe just do a little trenching in easy to dig dirt, ie realitively free of roots and big rocks, think again. A smaller hoe is pretty much only good for aggrivation unless it's an industrial grade TLB from Cat or somebody like that.

A little to close to home....

But of course this is how it started...

The fire originated from an outbuilding that spread to the vegetation, according to Georgetown Fire.

Actually I'm looking for an excavator, similar to this one. I have a lot of creek work to do every year, and this should do the trick.

That will get the job done sure nuff but it takes a whole of of digging to justify that kinda cost.

Nah, if it makes you happy, then it was money well spent. My dozer in my mind, paid for itself, and I could sell it for what it cost me.
But if it broke down tomorrow, It would cost me more to get rid of it than I'd get for salvage.
That's my biggest fear, breaking down at the creek, it would probably become part of the forest, it weighs 25 tons .
