Colonial Pipeline Paid Hackers Nearly $5 Million in Ransom

Colonial Pipeline Co. paid nearly $5 million to Eastern European hackers on Friday, contradicting reports earlier this week that the company had no intention of paying an extortion fee to help restore the country's largest fuel pipeline, according to two people familiar with the transaction.

The company paid the hefty ransom in untraceable cryptocurrency within hours after the attack, underscoring the immense pressure faced by the Georgia-based operator to get gasoline and jet fuel flowing again to major cities along the Eastern Seaboard, those people said. A third person familiar with the situation said U.S. government officials are aware that Colonial made the payment.

This whole thing was planned, just like Israel being attacked, they hate the fact that peace in the middle East was finally taking place.

The gas shortages mostly affected red states on the east coast. Punishment for not voting for Xiden?

$5 million is microscopic compared to the cost of leaving the pipeline shut down.

They REALLY need to get some good, hack resistant software,
which I expect would cost a lot less than $5 million.
(Hint to other companies whose operations are controlled by software.)

If shutting down the pipeline for a few days
creates a shortage IN THE REGION SERVED BY THE PIPELINE,
wouldn't that mean that there's MORE fuel available for the rest of the country?
So why did prices go up EVERYWHERE ELSE, too?

Proof it was all planned.

Since I actually live in the effected area, and travel southern Virginia... some strange things are going on.  3 days, Monday-Wednesday I was in Danville, Chatham, Alta-Vista, Lynchburg, Appomattox, Bedford, Roanoke, Boones Mill - all major roads, Hwy 29 & 220.  IF there was a gas station OUT or HIGH prices, I would have seen it.  Yesterday, I was in Roanoke & Chatham.

Danville - no spike in gas prices, no shortages, gas is still below $3 per gallon, $2.78 for Unleaded is essentially the same for Diesel.
Martinsville & Roanoke & Lynchburg & Appomattox - no *big* shortages, prices also stable - just an observation, with just a FEW stations running out on a couple of pumps, with prices up 10-20 cents, traffic sure has NOT diminished one bit!  I've yet to see a single sign, "Closed" or prices above $3 per gallon at any of the *normal* high volume gas stations, Sheetz, Pure, Valero, etc.  Even the BP & Exxon stations (usually 20 cents higher), just didn't move up much.

My co worker said Blacksburg had a couple of stations run out.  We had NO GAS LINES in the area, all day Monday, everything normal, yet the radio stations were warning, "ALERT!!!  Will Robinson, GAS Shortages, Will Robinson!!!"  about 4-5pm there were LINES at the pumps, EVERYWHERE... thanks MSM, you just created an artificial shortage!  Just like the Toilet Paper thing.


But, some MSM babe, drove around Richmond, and found a BP station, $6.999 per gallon, and plastered it all over the news - yes, spiking another run on gas.  Gov. Black-face, baby-killing-advocate, Ralph Northum (former Lt Gov., with Clintonist, Gov. Fast Terry McAuliffe), got on the radio, begging, 'we know there's shrotages, please don't run out and fill up!' - naturally, it came across as, "OMG!!!  Go get GAS NOW!!!  Buy gas cans, fill shopping bags, milk jugs, anything you can find - we're all gonna run out!!"

So, as you'd expect, we heard on the radio, some 14k stations in NC were out-of-gas, 1000s of stations in Virginia are out-of-gas... sigh.   I've filled my service truck 3x this week, will top it off today, and probably at the same stations along the hwy, I usually do.  Sheetz, Sunco, Pure, Valero.  At least in the area I live, work & travel daily - you could tell anything ever happened.

In running my errands this morning I drove past 9 stations. Not a single one had any gas. It is reported that WNC is one of the most impacted areas as far as supply is concerned.

Most  places  out  in Newport News. Traffic  light for a friday

We will pay for that $5 Million at the pumps and all other goods.  Like taxes, it will get passed on to the consume.

ONE station just outside of Lynchburg, south hwy 29 was out.

Every other station on the hwy 29 north from Danville to Lynchburg has gas, just ONE of them was at $3.19, all the rest were between $2.79 - $2.99 per gallon.  Same from Lynchburg to Roanoke, everyone had gas for under $3.00 per gallon.

It may go up after the next load of gas is dropped off.  In you area diesel just jump 30¢ a gallon with the new drop.
