Walkie Talkies either UHF or VHF are really only line of sight and fairly useless USELESS you have a repeater system.  If you go CB or Ham remember to establish a code word system because anyone can monitor.

Believe me, this little monster can hit any repeater within 20 miles and it doesn't need clear line of sight, 50 if it's a clear shot.
It's worth the $50 bucks for an emergency.

Give it a few days...this censorship is not going to sit well with people on both sides
