One dead, two in custody after gunfire at downtown Denver rallies
"Patriot rally" and "BLM-Antifa Soup Drive" both planned for Saturday





Update: A Denver Post staff member witnessed the fatal confrontation. This story has been updated after authorities called into question the accuracy of that journalist's  report.

One person has died and two people are in custody after a shooting during dueling protests Saturday in downtown Denver, according to police and media reports.

A man participating in what was billed as a "Patriot Rally" that also included a presence of self-described BLM-Antifa  protesters, sprayed mace at another man and that man shot him with a handgun. Ambulances responded to the scene. Police said Saturday afternoon they were working on a homicide investigation.

Less than a month before the presidential election, left- and right-wing groups on Saturday faced off during rallies around Civic Center. An hour in, police had fired what appeared to be pepper balls after people from the leftist group started rattling a barrier headed into the amphitheater.

As the rallies got started the two groups were shouting at each other and police were standing by. One protester burned a thin-blue-line flag in front of the officers.

The right-leaning protesters were inside the amphitheater area while the left-leaning protestors were outside. Police were not letting anyone else into amphitheater area, but by 3:30 the barrier appeared to be coming down.

Looks like it wasnt antifa but just a local security guard, so this confrontation was separate from the two sides confrontation it seems. That said it still seems the shooter was in the wrong, unless mace counts as a valid reason for the use of deadly force. Kyle rittenhouse was maced and didnt shoot.

I don't think any state has qualified pepper spray as a lethal weapon, so his ass is in some serious trouble. Murder should stick solid.

Should be interesting to see which way the D.A. will go. My gut tells me that facts will take a back seat to "feelings".

Remember they tried to pass off the shooter in Portland as a security guard too! I heard he was working for a NBC station. if he was employed by them, seems like a good civil wrongful death suit against the station if a paid employee did this!

He initiated the confrontation by trying to take the mace in the first place. Thus he is clearly a murderer.
