The mighty wu

Tonight it's going to be sliced tomato's, sliced cukes, fried squash, steamed pole beans and corn bread topped with goat butter and clover honey. Oh yeah, a huge glass of sweet tea.

Every bit of it from the garden, our goats and our bees. Well the corn meal was bought at the mill.

How bout ya'll?

Greek food - don't know what exactly yet, it's only 10 AM here in Shanghai.  But I will be going out to a Greek restaurant later this evening with some friends!

You bet!  Some of the best food around the world is here...

In fact, for lunch I met a friend at Yershari Xinjiang Li - a restaurant that serves Xinjiang food.  Xinjiang is the province between Mongolia and Tibet...

Anyway, they have this lamb dish that is amazing.  Finely diced (like 1/8" cubes) peppers, onion, and lamb, sauteed with a little water, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper.  You scoop it out on to a flour tortilla with some freshly shredded lettuce.  If you didn't know any better, you'd swear it was Mexican!

About the only thing I haven't found here is a REALLY GOOD barbeque joint.  Southern Belle has decent Cajun food, and City Deli does great burgers (as does Boxing Cat Brewery, who have - as their head brewmaster - the former brewmaster from Widmer Brothers Brewery in Portland, OR), but so far - BBQ is the only thing I haven't been able to locate that's really, REALLY good.

Everything else, however - Mexican, Italian, Spanish, Greek, French, even Irish (O'Malley's with authentic Irish good) and German (two of the only 4 non-Munich Paulaner brew pubs in the world are in Shanghai - and they fly in the beer, smoked pork knuckle, and sausages and kraut 3 times a week) - is available here.  Great place to live if you like to eat!

I'll get some photos and report back in 6-7 hours...;)

Tonight is pork chops, sauteed spinach, baked spuds and a peach tart for just desserts.

As Michelle Obama always says, stressed is just dessert spelled backwards. Dig in!

Shanghai Dan

Tonight: Morton's Steakhouse in Shanghai (IFC Mall in Pudong).  Happy hour.  38 RMB gets you a martini of your choice and all you can eat filet mignon sandwiches.  that's $6 for a martini and 2 hours of eating fabulous steak sandwiches.

Yeah, I'm gonna eat VERY well tonight!

Tonight was braised carrots, a cold cucumber and rice salad and grilled pork chops with a spicy Asian style glaze.

Shanghai Dan

Tonight: a big bowl of chili I've been cooking/preparing over the last 3 days.  It's gonna be great!  Bowl of chili, some crusty garlic bread, and a tall glass of Guinness...:)

I hear ya. Ya can't make a proper chili in just one day. For me though, the Guinness is a bit heavy and does not compliment the chili very well. I prefer a well crafted pilsner.

Tomorrow after I turn the goats and chickens out I'm firing up the smoker, that will be about 5 a.m. I expect nirvana in the form of a Boston butt along with grilled corn a cucumber and tomato salad and my wife's famous peach and blueberry pie, around 5 p.m. we've some guests coming over.

Grow your own if you can. If you can't, support a local effort that you feel comfortable with. We've learned when to plant fall and summer vegetables, so we usually have something that we can harvest from the garden.

My wife made the decision to become a vegetarian about 12 years ago. I am close to being there. Ahhhh, who am I kidding, put a steak in front of me and it's gone. :))

We had an early Spring, then a  late season snow storm come right at planting time, and the cold and clouds stayed another month.
We got screwed this year, and all the local orchards are closed as well.
It wasn't a good year for the Sierra, but the Sacto. valley below us did well.
