Well, this may be interesting:

QuoteThe infamous Rule 40(b) has been swatted about like a flirtatious badminton bird, usually by know-nothing commentators and campaigns with absolutely no knowledge of what the rule actually means from a legal standpoint. But the way Rule 40(b) is currently stipulated, it means that Ted Cruz may be the ONLY candidate allowed on the ballot, and more specifically, Donald Trump would NOT meet the current standards stipulated by the rule.

It would be the meltdown of all meltdowns...

I can see the orange melting off his skin as spit exits his month wetting everyone from here to China.

A wise man uses it to scratch his balls.

I have to disagree with the authors update.

WTF, why even have rules if they aren't going to follow them?
Trump's in big trouble! If they follow the rules, Trump whines he was cheated, if they break the rules for Trump, they blatantly cheat Ted.

Quote"UPDATE: I myself don't think this rule will be interpreted literally, but just wanted to highlight the utter banality of the pundit class when it comes to referencing Rule 40(b). I assume that even if the Cruz-leaning delegates control the rule-making process, they will adjust the stipulation so it's not blatantly disassociating the popular voting results before a ballot is attempted."

I read it...didn't understand any of it.
I'm guessing that for a name to be entered into nomination a candidate has to have the WRITTEN support of at least 50.1% of the delegates from at least 8 states. Trump hasn't won a majority in any state. Not only that he has no gone to the trouble of tying down the State delegates - as Cruz has. I guess stumbling into a voting booth, slack jawed and ignorant, to pull the lever for Trump isn't enough.

Rule 40 B

Quote(b) Each candidate for nomination for
President of the United States and Vice President of
the United States shall demonstrate the support of a
majority of the delegates from each of eight (8) or
more states,
severally, prior to the presentation of the
name of that candidate for nomination.
[/b]

It will get interesting, that's for sure.

This could be used as leverage to get Trump to tow the line going into the convention...a bargaining chip

Though I would think this was at least one of the topics of discussion at the meeting between Trump and the GOP a week or so back.

Severally?

Also, seems like this opens up the floor for delegate wheel'n and deal'n right from the git go......

So I hear there will be 200 or so non committed delegates right off the bat.   THATS WHAT SCARES ME if Trump is within that margin, especially if these are GOPe party types.. we all know how the GOPe likes to roll over and play dead.

Severally = separately. The majority of delegates from eight separate states, not the majority of votes when eight states are added together.  Besides even the GOPe doesn't want the the Trumpbots, they can exist with the conservatives. Trumpbots are the types who want to set up Guillotines in the public square. They're haters, pure and simple.

good point, and I think they ought to put the screws to him.  If you're so bent on ignoring the rules, and making a big fuss about it, this is what you get - NOTHING.
