One sunny day in January, 2017, an old man approaches the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue where he'd been sitting on a park bench. He speaks to the U.S. Marine standing guard and says, "I would like to go in and meet with President Obama." The Marine looks at the man and says, "Sir, Mr. Obama is no longer President and no longer resides here. "The old man says, "Okay," and walks away.

The following day the same man approaches the White House and says to the same Marine, "I would like to go in and meet with President Obama." The Marine again tells the man, "Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Obama is no longer President and no longer resides here." The man thanks him and again just walks away.

The third day the same man approaches the White House and speaks to the very same U.S. Marine, saying, "I would like to go in and meet with President Obama." The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looks at the man and says, "Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mr. Obama. I've told you already that Mr. Obama is no longer the President and no longer resides here. Don't you understand?"

The old man looks at the Marine and says,"Oh, I understand. I just love hearing it." The Marine snaps to attention, salutes, and says, "See you tomorrow, Sir!"

Me, I'd sit on that park bench waiting for the 101st Airborne to drop in for the eviction.

                             Indeed!  My fear is an addendum to this story that has the man coming back to the marine at the gate to find out that OBOO BOO never left.....had been hiding in the White House underground bunker.....has surfaced and declared martial law....nullified the election...suspended the Constitution ......barred the doors of the Congress.....with Federal troops from the ....placed the U.S. population under 24/7 surveillance of the CIA /IRS.....and has installed himself as the first North American IMAM/Emperor .

I don't know. Most of the President's for life, in these other places, were simply following tradition. The Revolution is over, I'm the only one with an army, I'm President for life. We have an entirely different tradition. The closest we ever came was FDR, and they immediately changed the Constitution, so we didn't have to rely on the personal honor of anyone any more.

I surely do admire the way you used "personal honor" in a sentence about politicians and never once even giggled. 

Were our founders here today there'd be a lot of body bags filled on Capitol Hill, and a lot of used dueling pistols melted down from over-use.

True. It's odd that two Roosevelts - TR with the Bullmoose and FDR it his four terms - that tried to, or broke with, the Washingtonian tradition of two terms.
