...And a former Bush official rightly compares this to Jimmy Carter giving away the Panama Canal, with even worse results.

QuoteThe U.S. government's plan to give away authority over the Internet's core architecture to the "global Internet community" could endanger the security of both the Internet and the U.S. — and open the door to a global tax on Web use.

"U.S. management of the internet has been exemplary and there is no reason to give this away — especially in return for nothing," former Bush administration State Department senior advisor Christian Whiton told The Daily Caller. "This is the Obama equivalent of Carter's decision to give away the Panama Canal — only with possibly much worse consequences."

The U.S. Commerce Department announced late Friday it would relinquish control of The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) — the organization charged with managing domain names, assigning Internet protocol addresses and other crucial Web functions — after its current contract expires next year.

In response to months of mounting criticism from the global community over sweeping National Security Surveillance programs leaked by former agency contractor Edward Snowden, the administration surrendered to allegations it had too much influence over the Web through ICANN, which designates the roadmap from web-connected devices to websites and servers across the globe.

When this gets to the stage of Internet taxes --- and widespread censorship of ANY criticism of Obama or of Islam --- let's see how America likes the anti-American piece of trash in our White House.

We had "too much influence." That's the scum that doesn't want us as world leaders, and has worked since his first fraudulent election to bring us down to his level.

I would love to see just one presidential candidate run part of their campaign on getting out of the United Nations.

That should piss off the likes of Peglosi, dingy Harry, and the rest of Obama's tit suckers.

Then ask the folks in China, or Russia, or many other places where Internet traffic is highly censored (if permitted at all). Muslims censoring anything they don't like has become commonplace. In the U.S., expect censorship to get VERY heavy against gun-rights, Christian-rights, and Constitution-supporting websites. The new world government demands this erosion of our values.

Today, incidentally, was the 25th anniversary of the creation of the World Wide Web. Tim Berners-Lee is interviewed by Der Spiegel (and in his view the U.S. should give up control over ICANN)....

No I haven't and I'm also wondering about the legality of relinquishing control without consent of Congress.

All of a sudden the contract (under the aegis of the Department Of Commerce) ran-out.  Give 'em a day or two.

Any word about who is going to step in? This administration is all about power and control so there is no way we are giving this up without getting something in return possibly from whoever takes control. Or we already secured the structure needed to covertly maintain control or at least continue to mine data.
