The Department of Homeland Security (through the U.S. Army Forces Command) recently retrofitted 2,717 of these 'Mine Resistant Protected' vehicles for service on the streets of the United States.

Although I've seen and read several online blurbs about this vehicle of late, I decided to dig slightly deeper and discover more about the vehicle itself.

The new DHS sanctioned 'Street Sweeper' (my own slang due to the gun ports) is built by Navistar Defense (NavistarDefense.com), a division within the Navistar organization. Under the Navistar umbrella are several other companies including International Trucks, IC Bus (they make school buses), Monaco RV (recreational vehicles), WorkHorse (they make chassis), MaxxForce (diesel engines), and Navistar Financial (the money arm of the company).

The bigger question is why do we even have a DHS in the first place?

But to be honest, 2,700 is not a number that raises my concern, 50,000 would be another story, but at 2,700, that's roughly one vehicle per 7000 sq miles in the US, so the odds of seeing one will be as rare as seeing a Spotted owl in the middle of a city, which is where these things will most likely be housed, in the heart of liberal Utopias.

The # may be a bit low for a govt. offensive, but I would like to hear a rational explanation of the actual threats that they will engage.

Would be hilarious to see a GOP / conservative election sweep, and see all of these on the Mexican border.

At the same time the Lying SOB is saying about how austere the DHS will be, since the sequester...no more overtime yet they can buy tanks?


On the upside I don't think those "tanks" would stand up to a 50 cal barret. Maybe even a 338 solid would penetrate it.....

Lemme tell ya a little secret here from the days I used to help TAMIAMIARMOUR.com sell armoured limos.

Bullet proof glass which will stop a 308 round(Nato) will only do so for a single round or so...it will not stand up to multiple hits...after the third or fourth hit the ballistic integrity degenerates and
its about like regular glass and that applies to the strongest security glass ever made.

Yep, that's how I look at it, caskets with wheels instead of pallbearers.
These are simply troop carriers an nothing more which is why I didn't get excited about it. It's when we start seeing  them buying large amounts of robots is when I will start getting truly concerned.
