I've been saying it for decades, Lincoln didn't give a shit about slavery, in fact, after the war, the north kept much of their slavery intact. But that didn't fit the GOP narrative, so we've always repeated the Civil war was always about slavery, made the GOP look like the good guys.
But a recent discovery exposes that the north was willing to instill slavery into the Constitution as the 13th Amendment.
Was Lincoln Right in forcing the South to join the Union? After all, it was about the all mighty dollar. Always follow the Money!
The North feared the Souths shipping ports, that's where tax dollars came from tariffs, because we didn't have an income tax yet. I'll shut up, just watch the video.

Growing up in Texas, this was learned before we learned to sing Jesus loves me. Slavery was one of the few items that congress was able to compromise on. Don't get me wrong, slavery was wrong, period. But the big arguments in congress were as you wrote about tariffs. The north needed to build their industry and the south could buy cheaper from overseas. Wars are not started over what the two sides can compromise on, they are fought over what can not be compromised on. Had the war been delayed by five to seven years the outcome probably would have been different. The Walker Colt would have made that difference.

Exactly!
Labor was losing out over mechanization, (Cotton Gin) slaves were actually expensive to own/upkeep.
The North needed the ports in the South badly as the West was looming on the horizon, but food could easily be shipped to the North, but there was no profit in it for the north.
Slavery aside, I always wondered if the right side won. Though with the South, there would probably have been a class based society.
Kinda proves they corrupted our Republic from the start. The Dims have always been a cancer!
