Men claim to find Nazi train loaded with treasure in Poland

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Two men in Poland claim they have found a legendary Nazi train that according to local lore was loaded with gold, gems and valuable art and vanished into a system of secret tunnels as the Germans fled advancing Soviet forces at the end of World War II.
Historians say the existence of the train has never been conclusively proven, but authorities are not passing up this chance at possibly recovering treasures that have sparked the imaginations of local people for decades.
"We believe that a train has been found. We are taking this seriously," Marika Tokarska, an official in the southwestern Polish district of Walbrzych, told The Associated Press on Thursday.
She said her office has received two letters this month from a law firm representing the men, a Pole and a German who are remaining anonymous, saying they are seeking 10 percent of the value of the train's contents for revealing its location.
She says that hiring a law firm gives credibility to the two men's claims, as do indications that they are familiar with the train's contents.
Already, the district governor has convened a meeting of firefighters, police and others to explore how they can safely handle the train if it is located. Not only could it be armed with explosives, but methane gas underground could add to the risk of an explosion.
"It could be dangerous," Tokarska said.
The train is said to have gone missing in May 1945. Legend says it was armed and loaded with treasure and disappeared after entering a complex of tunnels under the Owl Mountains, a secret project known as "Riese" — or Giant — which the Nazis never finished. At the time the area belonged to Germany but now lies in Poland.

I just read a couple articles on that a few minutes ago.  I don't believe it.  Why go-thru the BS of lawyers and surreptitious identity-concealment?  And nobody ever stumbled across old railroad-tracks leading into a mountain?  Plus, nothing moved east in '44-'45 unless the Russian-forces controlled it.

Somebody's been reading Kolchak's Gold, by Brian Garfield.  A reporter travels back-and-forth to Sebastopol during the cold war, tracking-down a lost Nazi gold-train which was seized by the Russians.  It ended-up in the Urals or Caucuses, if I remember right.  -Long since discovered and looted.

My thinking is they found something, and have let the authorities believe the tales of wealth beyond their wildest dreams.
Let the media hype it, get 10% of all profits, including movie rights and voila, they actually did hit a Nazi gold.

Yeah, Myway had the short and sweet on the story, which is why I chose it, while all the others hyped the folk lore and tales of riches that would make Tutankhamun look like a rich ghetto rat.

It just seems like it'd be too hard to keep it a secret in 1945.  And it would've had to've been Winter-conditions amidst neglected track-and-bed maintenance.

I also did research on Bully Hayes' gold, hidden near Madagascar... in which a Japanese military-engineer, who'd studied the history, suddenly was a rich businessman after the war.

On the 10-percent, I think there's still a Holocaust-bounty on art & treasures, as well as bounties issued by the European-countries whom the Germans sacked.  They'd be lucky to get 5-percent.

Movie rights alone will pull in millions. Even if all they found was a single empty box car left on a abandoned dead end track buried in a collapse, the "Capone's Vault" syndrome of intrigue and possible wealth kicks in, the media bids for the story rights.
We've seen it time and time again, like a lottery ticket, it's not what's in the box car, (dreams of a winning ticket syndrome) it's the dream of endless wealth such a dream carries, and that's what this carries, dreams, nothing more.

Hell, maybe they're literally scamming the media, selling out to the highest bidder for a phony Pirate's map.
