Some interesting things. 

I recognized some brands that are still around - StarKist, BirdsEye, Campbells
I noted the butchers didn't wear any gloves while handling the meat but the packaging woman did.
My personal favorite was the "sign" guy.

In some ways the groceries were better and at least the environment seemed better.

I had a Mayfair in my area growing up. Bought out by Rayle's.

Interesting. I worked in a grocery store in HS and it was a lot of work. Everything had to be marked then, I was always amazed at the small profit margin for most products. Today everything is bar coded. Better?  probably not, maybe less chemicals and fresher.

Back when I was a kid, my family owned 88 acres of hill top in Allegheny County New York. On that 88 was a field of approximately 10 acres of nothing but blackberries. Every summer we kids, and occasionally my mother would be out there in the damned hot summer sun picking blackberries till we couldn't see straight.

We had a gig with a local grocer and we sold our pickins to them. It started out we made $0.15 cents a quart, then we bumped it to $0.25 cents, the last I recall we were making $0.75 cents a quart.

Mom would keep all the income for the kids and then at the end of summer we would go on family vacation. Mom would divy the pickin money up between the three of us, (all brothers,) and there were times we would get $200.oo a piece to spend on vacation.

Great memories, wouldn't give you a plug nickle to go back and relive it though.

Mom and I would pick all day long, I'd eat and she'd save them for pies.
It was a win win for me.
