Title: APeel Coating for Fruits and Vegetables
Post by: Solars Toy on June 06, 2023, 02:02:30 PM
Has anyone heard about this?  With the names of some of the investors I wouldn't trust it.

Apeel Sciences is a company founded in 2012 by James Rogers, who received a $100,000 grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to help reduce post-harvest food waste in developing countries that lacked refrigeration infrastructure. The company has raised a total of $110 million in funding from investors who include the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Viking Global Investors, and Andreessen Horowitz.  Apeel Sciences is the maker of an edible coating used to coat grocery store fruit and vegetables known as Edipeel.  The company has been financially backed by high-profile celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey and Katy Perry.  While some online posts misrepresent the safety of Apeel, there is no evidence that the plant-based product is dangerous.

Here is the fact sheet.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has supported some notable efforts, such as the eradication of Polio world-wide, in partnership with the Rotary Foundation and others.  I will not fault them for that effort.  This *appears* to be a good idea to help reduce food waste. The product fact sheet does not give much detail, so it is definitely worth a closer look to make sure there are no long term issues with the materials.

I just find it hard to trust people who are trying to reduce the worlds population. Toy

Yeah, there's a reason they're not giving up the ingredients list or process.

GMO STATEMENT
Edipeel is not derived from genetically engineered plant
material.

I wouldn't trust anything with that group of names on it.

My bad, the print was so fine, I thought it said it did use GMO.
With that said however, I did a little bit of searching and found another skeptic who followed this shit for a long time.
Read the opening, it's already on the shelves at Walmart.

"
Apeel Science's founder, James Rogers, Ph.D., is an
agenda contributor to the World Economic Forum
(WEF). He's also a WEF Young Global Leader. In 2018,
Rogers stated his company would transition to using
synthetic biology rather than extracting its ingredients
from real food."
