In Your Face China!!!

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (TSMC), the world's biggest contract chipmaker, said it will build a $12 billion factory in Arizona, creating over 1,600 jobs and boosting the Trump administration's efforts to reduce dependence on foreign-based supply chains of key technologies.

"The TSMC facility in Arizona will increase U.S. economic independence, bolster our safety and competitiveness, and strengthen our leadership in high-tech manufacturing," said Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, in a statement.

The Taiwanese company, which at an estimated market capitalization of over $255 billion is the world's most valuable semiconductor maker, said it intends to initiate the investment in 2021, and will be developing a state-of-the-art five-nanometer semiconductor fabrication foundry. The chips it makes can be used in high-end defense and communications devices.

"With TSMC's commitment, high-tech chips will be Made in America once again—the nation where the semiconductor industry was invented," Pompeo said.

"These chips will power everything from artificial intelligence to 5G base stations to F-35s," he added.

Pompeo also said the deal strengthens bilateral relations with Taiwan, which he called "a vibrant democracy and force for good in the world."

The Taiwanese chipmaker said the plan was to build the plant over nine years and that, when completed, it will be able to process up to 20,000 silicon wafers per month.

"This project is of critical, strategic importance to a vibrant and competitive U.S. semiconductor ecosystem that enables leading U.S. companies to fabricate their cutting-edge semiconductor products within the United States," TSMC said in a statement.

Great news!  Taiwan is good people who have gotten the shaft.  Feels nice to stick it to China, the country that killed tens of thousand so people in the past few months.  Not to mention ruined lives, destroyed businesses, crushed dreams, wrecked careers.

Yep, and Taiwan knows we are their best option for survival, so they literally just told China they're getting a divorce and restraining order enforced by the US.

With all these lawyers with cameras on the street i'm shocked we have so much crime in the world.

There is constitutional law and there is law and order. This challenge to law and order is always the start to loosing our constitutional rights.

Frauditors are a waste of life.

Don't we have our own semiconductor companies already?
Yes, but most were made in China.
This brings the price down further, crippling China's ability to compete.

I'm with you.  How about we incentivize American owned businesses to bring their plants back to American soil?

Having Taiwan business here instead of China is better than nothing...but it's not good enough.

Trump's way ahead of you on that, that's why they're moving here.
We do have American made chips, AMD, Intel, Micron Technology, Texas Instruments, American Microsemiconductor, Micron Technology, NVIDIA and the list goes on.

Point being, this plant will up the game in AI, there chip making ability made them the number one producer in the world.

This move will raise the quality across the board and make it harder for China to compete, it also makes it possible for the US to keep a closer eye on their products and well as sales.

Will also make it harder for china to spy. We really don't need china making anything for computers or phones or cameras or ect.

Exactly!!! This company is the largest producer of chips in the world, they are not innovators, they simply supply chips. So having them here, employing thousands of Americans, people who will be able to keep an eye on Chinese espionage, not to mention, this raises the cost of chips across the board.

That by itself cuts Chinese profits because they'll be forced to sell their products at a higher price. They used to buy cheap chips from Taiwan, that just ended!
