I read 1984 twoards the beginning of school. It had always come highly recommended to me, but I didn't decide to pick it up until later in my life. I think it was following some articles I read about Snowden that pushed me to finally pick it up. The book is certainly a classic, and it has a lot of real world implications. I'm certain you will find it to be a satisfying read.
Another book I recommend after that is called 'The Circle' While I was not a fan of the movie, the novel was well done and mirrored a lot of similar points.

I'm annoyed that I have to burn 5 second of my day to ask you to post a link.  Why would it not occur to you to post a link?

I read that book in 1972.  I was published in the late 40s.

A link to the book?..

Isn't that against some kind of copyright law?

https://www.amazon.com/1984-George-Orwell/dp/1328869334

Here's a purchase link.

I got it from my local library, though

Understand tho that this book was written about the marxist left(evil), not the conservative right(good). This is about the communist-style Saul Alinsky type tactics employed by the left today through their army of fake news. He saw this coming even back then because he saw it happen in other countries and read about it happening many other times throughout history when totalitarianism(leftism/big govt) takes hold.

Granted, there is no proof, but if any have ever wondered why a Fabian Socialist like Orwell, would write such a book, it could be because he finally figured out just what the Fabians were and what their agenda truly was.
Also, look up who actually holds the copyright on 1984. It seems that Orwell was trying to warn us about the Marxists, but played it off as a work of fiction to protect himself?
Who knows, but truth is, it is a blueprint to the end result of Fabian Society.

So far, it seems like more of a case against Totalitarianism like China rather than Socialism like Portugal

No, it's not a violation of copyright law to link to a book.

If you're going to discuss or review a book, why not post a link to it?  It just seems like common sense to me, hence my annoyance.

I remember it a little vaguely but I really liked the story. I wouldn't mind watching a movie version or something if it's well made
