Subway doesn't own any of its nearly 22,000 locations, but it charges franchisees 4.5 percent of their revenue for a national advertising fund and controls how the money is spent. Now, many store operators — particularly those in red states — say they're facing a harsh backlash from the parent company's decisions.



....a Wisconsin store operator posted a picture of a hand-scrawled note from an irate customer taped to the front door of his shop.

"Boycott Subway until Subway fires the anti-American ... Megan Rapinoe, the creep who kneels for our beloved National Anthem!" the note read.

"The ad should be pulled and done with," the franchisee wrote of the Rapinoe spot. "It gets tiring apologizing."

The nearest one to me is a small one on the hiway mini-strip mall.  I would grab a short sub to take with me on a day fishing trip.  The First time I saw that grUNT doing a Subway commercial my sphincter muscle went into lock down.

The next time I got near the place stopped, went in and the owner was working the counter, can't get help to work.  As soon as the how ya doing was over I started (politely) asking about the new ad.

He gritted his teeth and went ballistic.  He sent an email to the powers that be and begged them to NOT run that ad.  He lamented for 15".  Ex military, son in Marines, wife retired from civilian position with DOD.

When I told him when I came in I was going to tell him to shove the sub he grinned slightly and said "you wouldn't been the first".  He doesn't know what the overall numbers are but since the ad started running his business has dropped 15%.  His outlook is bleak. He said unless things change with this Kung-flu in 6 months or less he'll have to shut down.

Had a good conversation with the guy and had a pretty good sub for lunch that day.  I truly feel both empathy and sympathy for people caught in the crossfire.

These franchise owners need to ban together and start a new chain called "Fuck Subway", business would scream.
