Title: Meta Begins Removing Canadians’ Access To All News On Facebook, Instagram

What the hell is going on in Canada...Solar, Taxed does this pertain to CPF?

Meta (Facebook) Begins Removing Canadians' Access To All News On Facebook, Instagram

Canadians' access to news on Facebook and Instagram will be cut off in the coming weeks after Meta said Tuesday that a "fundamentally flawed" law is forcing the company to make the tough decision.

Canada's Online News Act, passed by its leftist legislature earlier this summer, requires Big Tech companies to negotiate agreements with Canadian news outlets and pay them for news content shared on social media platforms, Reuters reported. Meta spokesman Andy Stone slammed the law in a tweet on Tuesday and said ending access to news on its platforms was the only option.

"Today we've begun the process of ending news availability in Canada. Changes will roll out over a few weeks," Stone said. "As we've always said, the law is based on a fundamentally flawed premise. And, regrettably, the only way we can reasonably comply is to end news availability in Canada."

I guess it hasn't dawned on Canada to change the "fundamentally flawed" law. This reeks of government take over. It was the guns year and a half ago?

I think the issue is that Meta was scraping the news articles and reposting them fully, not just a link to the news source. The news sources want you to go through their web site and get that advertising and/or subscription revenue to see the full articles.  Don't see any problem with posting a link...

Yeah, that's how we've always done it anyway. Not just because it violates copyright laws to copy and paste entire articles, but as a business courtesy for the poor soul who wrote the article for the site.

This sounded more like the media was banning their content from being posted, but knowing Zuckerberg was somehow involved, the laws seem to apply differently to leftist elites.

That works okay with some news sources.
But with others, when you visit their sites, you get
terabytes of adware, garbageware, malware that crashes your system.
