The MV Dali approaches from the north-east but approximately four minutes and 20 seconds before impact all lights aboard the ship go out, a clear indication of a total onboard loss of power. One minute and ten seconds after this visual indication that all is not well onboard some lights are restored, and they continue to turn on and off to varying degrees until the collision.

I only started the video at time of impact, but you can watch from the beginning if you prefer.

A little soon for a "black swan event". And I don't see how it could play out. Still it will be interesting.

I watched from the beginning.  the ship lights go off about a minute into the video, come back on about a minute later, and the shortly after that a large plume of dark smoke appears to be pouring out of the port smokestack. At that time the ship starts a turn to starboard. Lights go out about a minute after they came on, ship continues to turn into the bridge. Lights come on again, ship continues to turn, and finally hits the bridge support.  IMHO, Either the rudder controls failed or the starboard engine/propeller failed causing the ship to turn into the bridge.  Could have been a lot worse had this happened during morning or afternoon commute...

I saw that as well. Usually white smoke is unburned fuel, which we didn't see, excessive black fuel is maxed out RPM.
It looks like they were fine up until they lost power, meaning loss of rudder control, (IMO).

They did have a port captain abord as it's his job to navigate out, so without power neither knew what to do other than drop anchor.
This is based on what I've been reading about procedure.

Sadly, it sounds like a horrific accident, but why they lost power will definitely be investigated.

Th crew had alerted ahead of time they had a power issue, so they blocked traffic.

As of the moment, they're starting with the contaminated fuel narrative, which will prove out to be a lie considering this is the only ship to make such an egregious claim.

I am not buying the fuel theory either. The interviews with the two pilots will be key. I believe the cyber possibility should be investigated.

They tried quashing trucking at the port but that didn't work, will they pull the obvious and attack the port directly?
Wouldn't that be a bit too obvious? So outside of Louisiana and Texas, how will they cripple La before the elections?
