I'm officially retired, October 16.

The house is up for sale, and we are headed to Arizona. Three of the kids are in Sierra Vista and that will be our intern stop. Don't know where too after that. Hope to be there by Thanksgiving.

The wife and I are born and raised in Southern California. We were discussing the changes and realized there are thing we have never experience. We have never seen it snow, nor had the joy of driving on an icy highway. I know there are other things we don't know about. Any hints you want to share.
I dream of the day a chicken can cross the road with out it's motives being questioned.

I love Arizona.  I used to go there once a year.  One of my best friends lives in Tucson, and I had a client there years ago, so I always had a reason to go.  I remember how much I loved it every time I went, and loved the desert drive from Phoenix to Tucson.  We just don't have access to that scenery out east.

I adore the desert, the weird weather, but I now despise the heat.
Before you settle down, head north, take in the beauty of Idaho, they have desert as well as beautiful forests, head East through Montana, keep going through Wyoming, the Dakotas, see the country you've never seen before, hit the smallest of towns, the people are all Patriots, and regardless of where you go, this is what you will see, 50s America never died, only the cities killed off the spirit.

The US is alive and well in rural America, you'll see it if you slow down and ask about the area....

My daughter and son-in-law moved there in April 2020.  Best decision they ever made.  I have made a few trips out to see them.  Last one was in June.  I was there for just over 2 weeks (my son-in-law had a double lung transplant) and the average temp was 115 during the day.  It did rain one afternoon so my grandson and I played in the rain.  Toy

DISNEYLAND AAAAAh

So the house is sold, money banked, furniture moved out (two storage units and half a garage). Just a couple of commitments before I can leave. The first was a family trip to Disneyland, The second of course is Thanksgiving.

Really well said, from someone who escaped the blue craphole of Western Washington for the warm red embrace of South Dakota.  Being born and raised here (left for the coast 50 years ago), I never realized how I missed the endless rolling prairie.  Driving the isolated county roads is so soothing, where the only traffic you ever see is farm equipment.

Thanx.
As a kid in the 50s and 60s, dad used to take me to his brothers house in Battel Mt Wyoming, then head North for the Dakotas and back near the Canadian border and West back home.
With the exception of Kansas and Nebraskan plains, one rolling hill after another, it was beauty most never see, especially city dwellers who never ventured out.

If not for the weather at the Canadian border, I'd have probably moved near there, but it costs a lot to build a proper home for the environment, let alone heat it.
I almost moved a few years ago to Idaho, made the trip and searched for land, problem was, there was nothing even close to the piece I have here in Ca.

Luckily I live far enough from the cities, I'm leftist alone.

We can all be envious, can't we?  I tried to get acreage here in SD but the properties I wanted to look at seemed to be bait and switch -- all too good to be true.  I settled for a quarter acre in a town of 1,000, surrounded by cornfields, room enough for a small orchard and a garden big enough for one, as well as a chicken coop.  Can't tell you how much better this is that living in Jay Inslee's gulag.

OOPS!  I apologize.  I just realized I got off topic and I totally spaced out congratulating Rick.

Congratulations!

No not at all.

Update:
Left California December. Had what we thought was an apartment in Sierra Vista AZ. It was suppose to be remodeled for handicap access. Arrived Sunday morning, work was of such poor workmanship we could not move in. Some was outright dangers. Put everything in storage. Got my money back, and found another apartment, moved in Jan 19.

Gas has been $3.39 to $3.44 the whole time. Beef and pork prices have been comparable, chicken is .25 more.

Weather has been down to 29 degrees at night and 60's during the day.

Have visit some of the sights. Everyone love Tombstone.

Bid on a house last Sunday, three rounds of biding and lost out, 17,000 plus considerations over asking.

We will find one.

My daughter and son-in-law moved to San Tan Valley AZ two years ago April.  Last time they checked their house had almost doubled in value.  Granted they have done a lot to the property but still...Toy
