Thought I would introduce myself before the liberals nail me as conservative and the conservatives nail me as a liberal.

I am a principled moderate. I am not registered with any party, and don't think I ever was, though I might have registered as a Republican decades ago in Texas and just cant remember it. I come from a Democrat family that has huge union support.

To describe my ideological leanings briefly; I agree with conservatives on about 2/3rds of issues and with moderate liberals on1/3, on economics I am a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distributism Distributist, and no that has nothing to do with Marxism, and I have a lot of leaning toward Austrian economics.

I am conservative on moral and social issues, national security issues, lean pro worker on economic issues, though I agree that small businesses are the biggest employers and the engine of our economic success and growth. Favorite post-WW2 Presidents are Truman, Reagan, JFK and George W Bush.

I like friendly calm discussion with both conservatives and liberals, but the libtards that troll all over the internet these days I rate alongside the KKK, another Democrat group of nutballs.  I like Ron Paul on many issues, but disagree with his economic extreme free market concepts, and his radical withdrawal from overseeing our interests around the world. I do agree we need to curtail our interventionist reflexes, but not everything that happens in the world is a vital American interest, IMO, and we simply cant afford eternal warfare; eternal vigilance however is a necessity.

Anyway, hello, and I look forward to some interesting discussions.

Right now, I play Ingress, MtG occasionally, and read various topics on the internet. I used to be a bookworm but now I am an internet crack addict.

I have some new thinking along with old, and want to bounce some ideas around with some people, but haven't found a suitable forum yet...maybe this one is just right.

'New thinking' is difficult to come by and most often is just something old repackaged unknowingly, but I crave such things. Our range of conversation these days is so narrow; too many things verboten.

I like thinking verboten thoughts and testing them with new trappings. It is a perk of freedom and often surprising what people will agree to when you take something out of its historical labels and boil it down to bare bones. For example, what is the suitable scope of American interests and power? We do have significant interests off our shores and far away, but does it really require  150+ bases?  What is a free market? Is it more free with no rules or less free due to more difficulty for more members to participate fairly? The Market Makers always have an advantage over the market participants, is this good or bad? These are things the polar opposites say are defined, but are they really? To what extent is the two party system competitive and how much is it duopolistic?

Lately I am very bored after I hurt my back and now am on disability. Hopefully I can get healthy again and back to work, but things don't look optimistic to me.

This is a good forum for all of what you seek.    I just choose to stay out of that arena.  Well until Obama goes away. Which cant happen fast enough for me.  I hold total disdain for the entire lot give or take a few.  And I must be nice,,,so they say... :glare:
Sorry about your back....  I have friends with that issue and I hope truely that it can be better then what you are thinking.
I do hope you enjoy your stay here.... one things for certain,,,you'll get many different view points.
