She gets sooo frustrated with him because she's so used to Diesel, the extremely well mannered dog, so when he showed up and felt freedom beyond a pen, he's been like the Tasmanian Devil with the best of intentions, as he bowls you down with excitement.

He really is a sweet dog, he doesn't mean to do wrong, but no one ever took the time to work with him.
He stole my sandwich off the counter, got in trouble, chased the kitty, got in trouble,.

He hasn't done it since because he didn't know it was wrong and now he does.
He's now a part of the family, like it or not. Now if we can just get Diesel to warm up to him, she thinks he's a complete idiot.

So my normal morning walk is between 7:00 and 8:00 am.   This morning I slept in until 7:00, which is very unusual, and headed out after 8:00.  On the way down I smelled a very strong skunk smell... I think this was why.

She was behind him by 45 minutes. That's just cutting it too close. He's a big boy...

A California brown bear.  It was garbage day so he was probably just making the rounds.  Toy

Holy cow, I would have a heart attack if I ever saw that bear. All we have here are coyotes and occasional rattlesnakes. I have always been afraid of snakes, any kind of snake.

He lives very close, maybe on our land, but there's so much of it that isn't accessible, anyway, not at my age.
In the past I covered nearly all of it, a few caves, mostly cliffside, so there's no telling where he beds down on hot days, no doubt down along the creek someplace.

I do remember one hibernating across my creek in a cave, but since it got flooded one year, none have attempted in since.
I love these guys, they never give us any trouble, but then, we don't leave food accessible.

It's funny, many a mornin she wakes up, walks out before coffee, gives off a low guttural sound.
Even the bear would give her a wide birth for travel. I don't know if they're groans or growls, but I just stay put typin away and wait for the coffee to kick in.

Only then am I certain the bears will be safe.
