Prepare to be heart-warmed, in this tale of two dogs only hours away from being put down...until someone caught this photo. (Even better: the follow-up shot of the hounds thanking the man who adopted them....)

Yeah, that one pulled at my heartstrings when I first saw it.

I have a real soft spot in my heart for dogs.  They are such faithful companions to us.  How could anyone mistreat them?  I cannot understand.

We do senior rescues from a shelter in SC. Currently we have four. They are a pleasure, but a responsibility as well.

That is a good deed you do!  I wish I could do that.  I do go to the area shelters periodically and take various supplies to help with the care of the strays they collect.  I spend time visiting with each critter!  I would take them all if I could. ....... never met a dog I didn't like.

I must admit my wife does most of the work and I just enjoy them. They are all poodles so they are not huge. The key is not to take on more than one can take good care of.

Does your wife do all the grooming and clipping?  That gets expensive if you take them to a groomer.  They must be groomed regularly.

We have had two maltese and I did some of the grooming.  But I took them to the groomers when they needed to be clipped.  They are such sweet dogs.

She has a little "wokstation" in our basement for small jobs. However, we take them monthly for a regular grooming.

We spent so much money on vet bills during the last two years of our last maltese's life that my husband would croak if I brought home an older dog.  Our dog was on human heart medication, twice a day insulin injections for diabetes, and she was blind.  It was heartbreaking to watch her demise.  That is one reason we have not gotten another dog.  We finally had our maltese put down when we saw that she was miserable.

Your wife is now one of my heroes!

Thanks for the kind words for my wife.

It is tough when we lose one, but the joy we brought them and they brought us is worth it.
