I got the phone for my use.  I got an answering machine for some one who think they need to talk to me.

Remember when you could call a business and expect an answer (even by an American)? I used to teach a continuing education to insurance professionals who worked in agencies. I would emphasize to them their position was unique as they were about the only folks their customers got to talk with locally and they should take advantage of that opportunity to add value to the relationship..

Good riddance to the 8 track!!! I hated that shit with a passion, my friend had one in his Camero in 1969, and you'd be rocking along, and suddenly the music would stop, always in the best part.
I always saw it akin to sex, right at that perfect moment.....And..... peebreak, .....and we're back, and now we'll finish the last 9 seconds.
I swore I'd never touch an 8 Track the rest of my life, so when I went in the army, I bought a 4 channel Akai reel to reel (also on this list) but it still works and sounds great.

Anyway, Jerry died, his dad kept his tapes and added them to his own collection of 8 tracks, music from the 40s and 50s, music I have always loved. When he died the family called me and said "Don wanted you to have these 8 tracks".
As much as I Loved the music, and there was thousands of dollars worth, enough to fill an 8x8 room, I declined and their faces showed the let down. I don't know if it was over Don's gift not being accepted, or anger that they couldn't unload that shit, either way, they were pissed.
But I am soooo glad I wasn't saddled with that crap, I doubt the dump would accept them, they'd probably have to be recycled or something.

OK, done ranting. Did I mention just how much I hated 8 tracks? OK, I'm going now...

Best thing about those 8 tracks was when the player ate the tape, you finally pulled the wrinkled, ruined tape out and let it unwind out the window while you were driving down the road. Of course the roads were less crowded then.

Not that I ever did that.
Not only did the reel to reel sound great, they were and are the best pure sound out there. Vinyl records were the next best.

Yeah, that was fun. Kind of amazing how long that tape was once it hit the end.

And I agree, reel to reel had no hiss or pops that records have. I still listen to it from time to time. I dated a girl whose father taught at a music school, music appreciation course, he died and she gave me all the reels he had, hours of classical music with all his notes on what to listen for. I've always loved classical music, half my LP's are classical, the other half is pop and bubble gum.
I loved bubble gum of the 60s.

What do you have?

Since we are having a little fun with this thread this post reminded me of, "Whadda ya have?". I suspect there are a couple of folks here who recognize that question.
