Quote from: Twinkle on February 10, 2022, 04:03:04 AMHave never been able to figure out men's urge to pee outside.  I spent six months with my brother at his home in a tiny rural Western Montana town.  One winter night, I walked out onto the front porch to have a cigarette with my bro and found him standing at the rail, tucking himself back in.  When I asked why urination couldn't wait until he could walk 20 feet to the bathroom, I just got the look.  I thought he was a total rube.

Later, I asked my husband about this.  My urban, sophisticated and very polite husband then told me that sometimes he simply wanted to walk out to the end of the back deck and let fly.

Is it just about wanting to show off the fact that you don't have to sit down to do it?
You answered your own question! It literally saves the hassle of tromping through the house to squirt into a dedicated plumbing appliance.

Where I live (Ohio) ESPECIALLY this time of year, we are renewing our perennial acquaintance with General Mud, the evil dude who has governed important battles and global migrations for thousands of years. Since we are not blessed with paved walkways, when I am outside, my shoes collect bits of the General. The very boot soles that allow me to propel myself through the mud naturally collect some of it with every step. My footprints on our hardwood floors are not hard to detect, and they do not go un-noticed.

It's simpler and a LOT easier to whiz outside. No muddy footprints, no slogging through the house, no worries about the missus being perched on the throne, no bitching. Perhaps most especially, no unlacing and relacing of the boots every time I come in the house!

There's also the benefit of fresh air, I think. Even the most private parts need a healthy breeze now and then.

That's a wonderful explanation!  Thanks!  I like the idea that all of our bodies need the fresh air.

It's natural, less messing up the bathroom, and more convenient.  To me you're saying the equivalent of "why pick that apple off the tree? they sell them at the grocery store."

Quote from: Possum on February 10, 2022, 04:28:48 AMI'm guessing when indoor plumbing came about, the women went indoors and the men stayed out. Could be most of men's work was outdoors and why make the trip? Could be it was just a way to cut back on septic use. Before air conditioning it was more comfortable outside in the summer. Most early homes only had one bathroom.  Maybe it was our Mom's telling us,"if you can't aim any better than that, go outside!" I don't know but I have to admit this is the most I have ever thought about it.

Let's just say there's no golf course in metro Atlanta that I have not watered.  Peeing at home outside is so much better than peeing on the golf course while trying to avoid the rangers.  The only times I've seen the inside of a golf course bathroom was when I had a #2 emergency.

I can get behind the "less messing up the bathroom" part.

Definitely.  Here's a little secret about guys: we'll naturally gravitate towards the option that's easier with less resistance.  The less work involved, the better.  When I have to take a leak, outside is the first option.  If it's too public, or it's not convenient, or I have nice pants on and need to make sure I don't have any mistakes, or I don't have shoes on and it's too cold outside, then I'll pee inside.

Otherwise, we'll look around for another person to see if we can guarantee a 15-30 second block of time where nobody is coming. I do that ALL THE TIME on my walks.  I'm shocked that in all my years of golf course peeing, and walking on populated hiking trails, that I've never been caught in public.

I feel yer mud!
My soil is predominantly clay, ancient river bottom turned on end forming the Sierra Nevada mtn range of shale/clay and quartz.
Dust, finer than talcum powder is a constant battle that we've surrendered to the layer that permeates every crevice of the house.
That and dogs that hit the creek daily tracking it in, we just gave up. And the wife thought I was nuts when I blew out the house with a leaf blower.

Now she's fine with it, with the exception of having to put everything away that might blow out the front door.

One neighbor stopped in the road and came running, thought my house was on fire. Nope, just dust and Spring cleaning...

When I worked in highway construction, I was technically classed as a laborer. I can tell you for a fact that every laborer I ever met knows exactly how any job can get done with practically no physical labor when there's an equipment operator around.

As a heavy equipment operator, I can attest to the fact that labor is essential.
They are your eyes, they tell you where you are, they guide you to where you need your bucket or blade.
To this day I use a spotter when I'm on the dozer.

They may never turn a shovel full, but they are crucial in completing a job safe and effectively.

The dude on the ground keeps you from looking like a clown. I worked as a grade checker for many years. Coupled with the fact that I could read and write, it meant that I naturally advanced into supervision.

You use a spotter because you can't SEE the cutting edge. You use a spotter because you can't SEE the knuckle joint of your excavator. You use a spotter because you can't SEE the cutting edge on your grader blade, and you don't know for sure if it's high or low. You manage tons of steel that move back and forth, but you can't SEE what you're doing because those tons of steel are blocking your view.

I was the eyeballs for a lot of years.

Yep. You gouged it!

Lots of people know what a sheeps-foot compactor looks like, but I like the lore that goes with it -- the Romans or Greeks or somebody a really long time ago using herds of sheep to compact their dirt fills.
