Friends,

My father passed away around 4:30 p.m. yesterday. He was 85 years old. He suffered from a number of ailments, but cancer claimed the crown in the end.

I have never known a finer man.

Please excuse me from the festivities for the next few days.

So sorry for your loss T, I too lost my father at 93 a few years ago.
Though time makes it a bit easier, it never fixes the loss.

I wish I knew the words to take away the pain, but I don't think they exist...
You and yours are in my prayers.

Thank you, my CPF friends.

We laid Dad to rest on this sparkling September afternoon, with a VFW honor guard and a 21-gun salute. (Dad was Navy, WWII, USS Trathen [DD530] in the South Pacific.)

He fought the fight, and lived the life that we're working to defend and protect every day on this forum.

The last time I got to spend time with him, I felt him staring at me while I was turned away from him, talking to my sister. When my sister left, I turned back to Dad. "What?" I asked him. "I was just admiring you," he answered. All my life, I admired that man, and as his life was ending, he took time to admire me.

I have a LOT to live up to... and a TREASURE of wonderful memories -- and examples -- to help me along.

Again, thank you all for your condolences.

Ah, Tbone, my friend. I lost my Dad 22 years ago, and like yours he spent a lot of time in the South Pacific during the war. There is not a day goes by I don't think of him. Cherish the good times you spent with your hero. My Dad was always mine.
