It's nasty outside, were getting hit with a Winter storm as I write, heavy rains and sever down-bursts collapsed to brand new canopies, flattened them straight down, never even moved.

Also this is the earliest recorded Winter storm since 1969 in my area.
I'd post pics, but you've all seen heavy rain and snow, so I won't bore ya. :))

A cold weather front took aim at Northern California Tuesday, packing a potent punch with as much as 10 inches of snow for the Sierra peaks, the earliest return of winter conditions to Tahoe since 1969, according to weather forecasters. According to the Central Sierra Snow Lab, the flurries predicted with this storm will make the shortest duration between snow storms since 1969. The lab – located in Norden – got its last measurable snow on July 1 – 96 days ago.

Are you near the area where the Donner party got snowed in and ate each other back in the 1800s?

As the crow flies, yes.
But its a good hour and a half drive to get there.
Little foot note, that area is one of the coldest places in the Nation summer and winter.
I ran cattle at the Eure valley, a cousin canyon next to it, and we had a place there called ice house, it had ice year around and supplied the local ice men with a year around source for home ice delivery.

Truckee/Donner is one of those places where every year on the news, some moron from the coast comes up unprepared and freezes to death.

That's called thinning the herd. And if  you believe Charles Darwin then it is good for the species.

There is so many treacherous areas there, we have a place in the pasture that is basically a lake over grown like a bog, and lost several cattle in it.
But the story thats been handed down over generations is that several families died in it making their way West.
I drove across on a three wheeler and it was like riding on a water bed, when I got back thats when they told me the stories about all the people they never got out.
Apparently its real strong, but once it breaks, down ya go, its not visible in the snow, so I can see how it happened.

I think I'll contact the "occupy Wall St." organizers and convince them to hold an "occuppy Truckee/Donner" protest, preferably for mid-December.  8)

The good wife and I were in Utah just outside of Salt Lake city and was thinking of going over to the Tahoe area.  Then they started talking about snow.  lol   She said no way, time for going home.  We have been through Donner Pass three times and she said no way this year.  So we just got home after being out only 6 weeks last night.  It's great to be home as we could see show on the way home at around 7000 ft and lower coming through Utah, Idaho and Oregon.  [/font]

Welcome home.
Too bad you dodn't swing through, we could have met for lunch.
The snow was quick, about 2' worth, but the roads stayed open.

Its back to being sunny and clear, though the nights are now in the low 30s. :o

I was thinking the same about lunch.  But when the wife can see snow it time for home in her book.  She love it but does not like me pulling a 5th wheel in it.  It was  40º last night for us and the mid 60º to 70º day time for us now.

Smart woman, even though the roads are clear, that doesn't mean you'd find a place to turn around. :o

We may hit the mid 60s today, so that means more firewood prep. :(

LOL  MY 5th Wheel is 30' long and I have the 03 Dodge Ram 2500 long bed.   I learned to drive just out side Glacier National Park in 20' and 30' of snow,  I love it.  But the wife is a city girl from Washington State and ¼" of snow just shut her down.  As she tells me, I trust your driving!  Its's the other out there that don't know how to drive in the snow.  (and she right about most Washington driver in the snow) They think they can stop on a dime and turn with no problems with a 4 wheel drive. (need I say more lol)

LOL, we get the same drivers from the Bay area with 4X4s that haven't a clue.
And I understand the long bed Dodge, I too need a football field to turn around, and even then, it's still a 3 point turn. :))
It's one thing I miss over my Jimmy 4X4, that thing could turn around on the sidewalk, but the Dodge? :o
