In case you're wondering, (and I know you're not,) what I wear in that photo is known as a great kilt. In 1995 it cost me 800.oo USD and it's 9 yards of straight wool material and weighs like 10 or 12 pounds. It's heavy.
But to put it on I have to lay a belt on the ground first, then center the kilt over the belt and then hand pleat the kilt. Once that's done, I lie down somewhat centered in the pleated material and then wrapping the free ends of the kilt about my waist, then wrap and buckle the belt.  The shoulder wraps are then drawn up over the shoulder and held in place with the broach pin.

If you take the belt off and remove the pin, you'll find out what a true Scotsman wears under his kilt as the whole kit will drop to the ground.

 

Most definitely not summer attire.

There is no sheath, the shoulder strap has too metal loops sewn in the ends of the leather, just pull it from your shoulder and start swinging.  (Note:  I've actally got it on wrong.  Note the Kilt over the shoulder strap.  Should be the other way around.)

Sadly at the renfairs and highland games, its a requirement to tie weapons in place with a zip tie.

I finally got out and did something Wednesday, I'm trying to get out more as my strength returns.
I lost 20 lbs in the last year, so I need to put some muscle back on.
Yes, I almost died from the last bug having contracted pneumonia as well. Another bug will probably do me in. that's life...
