Title: labor day weekend.
Post by: walkstall on September 04, 2015, 08:19:26 AM
So this is a start for some a 3 or 4 day weekend.  Stay safe in all things you do.  The park down below us started filling up last night.  There room for 50 RV's and 3 tents at each site.  So it is a nice place for all the family.

For me, it's the time of year when we get our forest back from the city wannabe survivalist types and the heavy hand of the Fed.
Once the holiday ends, they all disappear.

Being one of the top ten apple growing counties in the country we have the annual Apple Festival downtown for four days. That means I am not going anywhere near there . It is a very nice event that draws many folks, but I just choose not to get involved.

Ughhh...We have the same here, called Apple Hill and it's a week long event attracting millions from around the world.
Forget using Hwy 50 to go to Tahoe, it's a literal parking lot at times.
Thankfully I can use the forest roads to take a 20 mile detour and not miss a beat.

Stay home, alive, well-fed and in good company.

Failing that, be bad, raise bail, and have great stories when you are someone else's good company.

Spending the weekend at a hotel with Mrs. SVPete. Doing half marathon tomorrow AM - got a strained calf muscle, so I'll be slow, if I finish.

I've been to Apple Hill.  Isn't there an old winery building there they turned into a restaurant?

Yeah, there's about three of them in the area. I guess apples were the money maker back in the day, so the vineyards were replaced with orchards.
I worked at the genetics lab for the USFS right in the middle of the area and would ask for night shift as along as the festival ran.
Sadly, we're about to come up on that time of year again at the end of this month. :scared:

I love the area up there.  Almost bought a beautiful piece of property, about five acres, in Pollock Pines. I think I mentioned that before.

Yep, that's the area. See? Be glad you didn't buy, you'd have to deal with tourists at apple hill and skiers from the Bay Area in the winter. Summer is a whole other issue.
