a.  rescue the kitty in distress.
b.  play with it.
c.  make it *stop*.

And, we have to cats, Queens, who won't take any crap from the dogs!  They're tiger striped, they hunt, the only rats and mice or rabbits we see, are "stiff on the porch".  Good luck finding a home.
Black or Tiger stripe kitten is right for us... two cats...adding a 3rd... too much.

Well, I expect I'll need to focus my efforts to get him a home here in Middle Tennessee.  I guess I need to take him to a vet soon.  Once my son got here to pick up the grandbabies, he completely ignored the hissing and just reached in the cage and got the kitty by the scruff of the neck and everything went calm after that. (I also have pictures of my son with a hummingbird sitting on his thumb...  creatures just like him.)  But the thing is, once the kitty was held and touched, he went from being defensive to almost listless...  sort of depressed.  I just went out before dark and gave him a little tuna but he only licked at it on my fingers and just lay there.  So that worries me.  😞

Hmmm, eye dropper and force feed him, he is too young to go too long without nutrition/water.
A turkey baster works best if he's big enough.

As far as water, I have one of those upside down water bottles attached low on the cage, the kind the if you touch the end at all, water comes out.  Do you think that would be okay?  I've left food in there with him, but I guess that may be a bad thing.  Maybe tomorrow I should get some kind of formula?  Or a soft canned "kitten" food?  I don't want to do something that will mess up his little digestive system.

Depending on his age, do you think he wasn't done weening yet? If so, then definitely yes on the formula, but I'd get him straight to the vet, he could have a bad case of worms. Is his belly distended, but not eating? Then yeah, worms.

He did eat the tuna that I used to lure him into the live trap.  I guess I need to run out and check in the morning to see if he was able to use the bathroom.  His stomach doesn't seem distended but, when you pet him, you sure can feel those ribs and that bony little spine.  I'll "just show up" with him at the vet, if I do, they'll work him in.

Good, sounds like he was just lost and hungry. Maybe a neighbor lost him, or was he dumped?
He's in good hands and found a good home.

That really is hilarious.

I think I've been in that mode before--tricked by my mind.

Happy to report that I went out to the shed this morning and he's used his litter box!  Most of his food was gone and you can see where he's "done his business" a few times.

But he still looks so sad.  Maybe that's just his little demeanor.  My plan is to take him to the vet to see if they can give him a check up and also de-flea and de-tick him, poor little guy.

Well, you all dodged a bullet.  My husband wants to keep the kitty!

We have a 9 A.M. appt in the morning to get him (or her, still too early to tell) to the vet and if we can get rid of the fleas and ticks, we're going to try to bring it indoors and introduce it to Chester.  We're hoping that he'll do better with a new kitten than he did with our last rescue, a Nebelung female that he never warmed to.  But we found her "human", and she had a happy ending.

Pansy (I named her), the Nebelung (below) had a similar story, she was found up in a car.  These people, living in a crowded apartment complex had her completely declawed, then decided they didn't want a cat and just threw her out into the parking lot to fend for herself.  A neighbor somehow found out what they did and went looking for her and eventually found her up in the tire wall of a car.  She took her to an animal shelter but no one wanted her (she was severely matted and had that Nebelung "scowl" that puts some people off).  I saw online that she was scheduled to be put down in 24 hours, so I drove about an hour to get her.  We had to have her shaved, but her hair eventually grew back out.  Chester was openly hostile and by the time we found her a home, he had only graduated to "resentment".

Chester's story is that he was taken away from a dorm of college boys who were throwing him in the air and kicking him like a football.  We don't know what else they did to him:  he's terrified of plastic bags, for instance.  He was in a shelter, in a cage with a tom called "Nigel" who was bent on killing him.  So, another rescue.  Except for llamas, we've never had an animal that wasn't a rescue.

Fingers crossed, everyone, that Chester accepts this little one.

Too cute for our farm.  Our Cats have that passionate look, "I came in for a drink, we're stacking up the mice out there, a few sparrows too!"
All animals are created equal; Some just take longer to cook.   Survival is keeping an eye on those around you...
