Depp has learned a lesson...... his "status" in Hollywood does not protect his dogs!

This is a story which brings back vivid memories for me.
We were taking a toy poodle from the U.S. to Saudi Arabia..... where we already had one dog.
What we did not know was that Arabia had issued a "no dog entry" mandate while we were out of the Country. (There had been an outbreak of rabies.) When we arrived in Bahrain we were informed that our dog could not accompany us into Arabia or it would be killed at the airport.
My husband called ARAMCO for a corporate jet to take us into the Country. Unfortunately the corporate jet would not be able to avoid the confiscation of the dog. They were checking EVERYTHING entering the Country.
We fortunately knew a missionary in Bahrain. We called him and he came to the airport to collect our dog.
When we got back home my husband was told by one of his Arab foremen that he had a cousin at the Port Customs Office and he could get the dog through for us. So, one Saturday morning the foreman and my husband arranged to travel back to Bahrain and enter Arabia via a dhow at the seaport. The morning of the travel plans the foreman said his cousin had just called saying he could not get the dog through customs because he was being watched.
Long story in shortest possible words...... they flew to Bahrain, collected the dog, and then flew to Qatar to re-enter Arabia from the southern border. Unfortunately my husband had no visa for entering Qater. The foreman (being Arab) was not required to have a visa. The Qatar authorities prompted told my husband he was being deported on the first flight out of the Country regardless of it's destination. The foreman quickly intervened on behalf of my husband and persuaded the authorities to deport my husband by taxi to the Arabian border. After leaving the airport my husband offered the taxi driver more money to drive them all the way to our home in interior Arabia.
When they arrived at the Arabian border there was the normal long, long line of vehicles in line waiting to be searched and allowed entry. The wait would have been at least another day at the border. However, since my husband was being officially deported, the taxi went to the front of the line. He took the deportation documents into the office and was given immediate access into Arabia without a thought of searching his taxi. :ohmy:
My husband had put the puppy under the car seat just in case they came out and looked in the taxi. He was shocked when there was no search whatsoever!
They continued promptly across the border and drove many hours to our home..... arriving at near dawn the next day.
That ended up being the most expensive dog we ever owned!!!

Thanks taxed and quiller. This forum is probably not the best place for my long winded tales. There are more than I can count..... including being caught up in an international demonstration against Henry Kissinger in Athens, Greece, being in Bangkok during a military coup, getting caught smuggling pork into Pakistan, rescuing Cambodian boat people, and the clandestine midnight escape from a collapsing nation...... plus many more crazy adventures! Many people have pressed me to write a book. Maybe I will one day. I just don't know how to bring "order" out of all the chaos in my world adventures. :laugh:

First draft: chronological order of events to ensure you don't forget any facts that must be inserted/expanded-on later.
Second draft: knowing when and where to reduce some things to flashbacks in order to keep the most interesting topics at the forefront. (This comes with practice.)
Edit draft: CONDENSE. Everybody "writes long" in drafts. You'd be amazed how tightening by just 10% (2-1/2 lines for every doublespaced page) will brighten the end product.

I favor the idea that the military had a large role in all you've described. And the military got into it because
your guy got into it. You weren't alone. There were other
service wives affected, and the influence and advice they gave a "noobie" wife SHOULD be a nice layer of fact for you.

Actually.... the military had nothing to do with it. We were in the corporate oil business.
Ironically our son has carried the torch in the corporate oil international scene.. he is raising his family globally because he loved his own experiences growing up..... tromping around the globe.
Both he and our entire family have mixed into these adventures an element of christian mission work. He learned that by going every week to the Cambodian Refugee incarceration center in Indonesia where we taught them English, the gospel, and helped them immigrate to refugee host nations.
As an adult he has gone into Darfur to help those people under dire circumstances and has traveled throughout African nations, Madagascar and Zanzibar..... among other places. He has lived in Rio, Brazil and traveled throughout the SA nations....... always with a mind toward missions.
He is probably one of the most traveled young men of his age. As I posted in an earlier thread.... he made his first solo international trek when he was just 14. He is now 34..... and a chemical engineer.

I am really not convinced that anyone would be interested in buying a book of my life adventures. Too many people today live similar lives. We have become global citizens and almost everyone I know has traveled fairly extensively. They just haven't had the same adventurous spirit as our family. We have pushed the envelope many times.
I used to say that I would go anywhere in the world by myself. But the world has changed a lot in my lifetime and I would no longer make that claim.
I am just grateful to have been blessed with a life that has allowed me to know and understand much of the world.
If not a book, then short articles. Take a look at Readers Digest's offerings, for example.

There, the Writers Digest annual markets book comes in very handy including specific editors in charge of various departments within an overall magazine.
