It is cold here and I am grilling a burger for Solar.

I comment that it is "nippy" out and so the discussion was - where did the word come from?

I surmised that people would call it a "biting" cold and since a bite is sometimes called a nip then that is where nippy came from.

I did a quick search and was quite disappointed. It does come from "bite", however, if I was to have an interesting conversation with pictures, I would want to use the other definition.
