I ask because I'll hit that milestone this year and I'm told I need to "sign up for Medicare".   :glare:

How about I just don't get sick?

So....  do you contact them or do they contact you, or how does it work?  I'm already getting tons of mail from what I suspect are "Part B" competitors:  Physicians Mutual, Cigna, etc.

*sigh*  I forgot this was part of the whole "Grammy" gig.

It's not that bad, she actually talked to a human who walked her through it. There are some things you need to be aware of, so she can help you out.

Yes - You are required to contact them and sign up.  When I retired this was one of the things they covered.  There is a window in which you need to do it.  Let me pull out my retirement binder (yes they gave me one) and get the information for you.  Toy

That plus 10. I don't know alot about medicare because I use the VA. More accurately they use me but my wife has supplametal coverage from United I think. I couldn't stand them because they're hard to get rid of. I had it at first then went to VA and those assholes had it figured that they owned me and I couldn't just up and choose to dump them. It took a threat of legal action to get shed of the assholes.
Crazy but not stupid!

From the Medicare website.

Getting Medicare is a major milestone. Here's where you can get the information you need, no matter where you are in your Medicare journey. 5 important facts: Some people get Medicare automatically, and some have to sign up. You may have to sign up if you're 65 (or almost 65) and not getting Social Security.

Initial Medicare Enrollment Period: Most people get Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance) during this period. It starts 3 months before you turn 65 and ends 3 months after you turn 65. If you're not already collecting Social Security benefits before your Initial Enrollment Period starts, you'll need to sign up

I remember they really stressed to us that we needed to make sure we were enrolled during this time frame. I still have a few years to go.   Toy

I agree with Solar. It was not as difficult as I thought it might. I am pleased with it. However, I do suggest you look into a supplemental plan as it will fill in some coverage gaps with Medicare.

Thanks so much, Toy!  I have a twin brother, I'll have to pass along anything I find out.  We've both been in denial, ha!

I had a lot of hope for the VA during the Trump admin. They treated one of my relatives like crap but things started changing, and I was hoping for the better.   Of course, Biden intends to ruin every good thing Trump was trying to do.   :glare:

That sounds encouraging.  I'm getting a lot of emails from companies wanting to fill the gaps, so I'd better educate myself.

I am a great believer in using a professional for guidance with something like this. An independent broker will have several options of carriers. I have seen too many situations where people thought they could do it themself
and end up with a surprise.
